FAIRFIELD – If this is February, this must be Fairfield. It seems like every year about this time, the Grapeland Sandiettes make their annual pilgrimage to Fairfield and set up shop in the Johnson Activity Center during the early rounds of the playoffs.

This year was no different as the Sandiettes welcomed the Frost Lady Polar Bears to their home away from home for a Bi-District matchup. Grapeland came into the game as the champs of District 20-2A while Frost finished fourth in District 19-2A.

KeKe Harris shoots over the outstretched hands of two Frost defenders as the Grapeland Sandiettes hammered the Frost Lady Polar Bears to capture the Bi-District Championship.

One of these days, a number four seed will shock the world and play for a state championship but Monday, Feb. 11 was not that day. Grapeland won the tip-off and then threw an outlet pass to Ragan Bowie who calmly knocked down a three.

At that point, the refs could have called the game as the Sandiettes raced out to a 30-5 lead before dialing it back quite a bit to win the Bi-District Championship by a final score of 78-38.

As mentioned, Grapeland got off to a fast start as Bowie’s three was part of a 15-3 run to open the game. The Sandiettes added another 15 to their total while Frost only added two more to make the score 30-5, after the first eight minutes of play.

The Lady Polar Bears scored on a three-pointer from Kinsley Fuller and a two from Katelyn Worley.

Grapeland’s Teira Jones goes up for two of her 17 points against the Frost Lady Polar Bears in the first quarter of a Bi-District match-up. The Sandiettes defeated the Lady Polar Bears Sandiettes, 78-38.

Teira Jones paced the Sandiettes in the first quarter as she knocked down eight points. R. Bowie, Hannah Chipman and KeKe Harris all had six while Tatiyana Bowie and Kenya Woods both chipped in two-pointers to close out the first quarter.

The Sandiettes let up on defense as the second quarter began and the Lady Polar Bears managed to add eight to their point total. Kyra Cerda, Haddi Montgomery and Jimena Perez all had two while both Fuller and Worley converted one of two from the line.

The let-up on defense also caused the Grapeland offense to sputter a little bit in the second period. Chipman led the Sandiettes with nine while Woods had four and Tori Woodford hit a shot from behind the arc to help give Grapeland a 46-13 lead as the first half came to a close.

After the break, the Sandiettes began to coast, but still managed to widen their lead. Frost’s Fuller dropped in four points for the Lady Polar Bears while Gentry Rogers and Sydney Woods had two apiece.

Jones led the Sandiettes third quarter scoring attack with seven points while Woods had four. Harris knocked down her third three as a trio of Sandiettes – R. Bowie, T. Bowie and Chipman – all had two which gave Grapeland a 66- 21 lead after three periods of play.

The fourth quarter saw Grapeland ease up on Frost, yet again, and the Lady Polar Bears dropped 17 points on the Sandiettes. Perez had six, Woods had four and Worley added three. Both Cerda and Fuller converted a pair of free throws to close out the Frost scoring.

Grapeland added 12 more to their point total as R. Bowie had five and Harris hit her fourth three of the game. Jones and Woods both had two as the Sandiettes cruised to a 78-38 win to capture the Bi-District Championship.

Ragan Bowie puts up a three during second half action of the Grapeland/Frost Bi-District game held on Monday, Feb. 11.

On the game, the Lady Polar Bears were led by Kinsley Fuller with 10 points and Jimena Perez with eight. Sydney Woods and Katelyn Worley both had six while Kyra Cerda added four. Haddi Montgomery and Gentry Rogers both scored two to round out the Frost point production.

The Sandiettes were led in scoring by Hannah Chipman and Teira Jones with 17 points apiece. Ragan Bowie poured in 13 while both KeKe Harris and Kenya Woods netted 12. Tatiyana Bowie added four and Tori Woodford knocked down a three-pointer to help account for the Grapeland scoring.

The win advances the Sandiettes to the Area round of the playoffs where they will take on the Moody Lady Bearcats on Thursday, Feb. 14 in Groesbeck. The tip-off time has not been determined as of press time.
