Teague Pulls Away from Crockett in 4th Quarter

Lady Bulldogs Fall to Lady Lions, 54-41

CROCKETT – As part of the Crockett Lady Bulldogs Thanksgiving Classic, Crockett scheduled a game against the number two ranked team in Class 3A, the Teague Lady Lions. And while it’s still very early in the season and the Lady Bulldogs lost, Crockett showed they could hang with a top tier squad in Class 3A.

The Lady Bulldogs trailed the Lady Lions by five as the game entered the final quarter, but Teague showed why they were deserving of the high ranking as they pulled away to win by a final score of 54-41.

As the game got underway, both teams struggled to find their range from the field. The Lady Lions were just a little quicker to find their shooting touch, however, and led by three at the end of one. KaDaja Nickleberry led the way for Teague with six. Destanee Roblow had three and Kennedy Bennett added a pair of free throws to give the Lady Lions an 11-8 lead after the first eight minutes of play.

The Lady Bulldogs were paced by Jaida Lockhart in the opening period with four points while both Dea’Junique James and Mercedes James both had two.

The two teams played evenly throughout the second quarter as both scored 15, allowing the Lady Lions to take a three point lead into the locker room at halftime. Ashlee Nickleberry, K. Nickleberry and Caelynn Thompson all had four points in the quarter while Susan Steen knocked down a three-pointer.

D. James led the Lady Bulldogs with nine while Anastasia Bolton dropped in a three, A’linjah McKnight had two and Shabess Johnson made one of two from the line to make the halftime score 26-23, in favor of Teague.

After the break, the Lady Lions slowly began to pull away. K. Nickleberry scored five, Roblow dropped in four, A. Nickleberry had three and Bennett added two.

Crockett was led by D. James with seven while Tynaisha McKnight added two and A. McKnight had one to make the score 38-33 – in favor of Teague – as the game headed into the final period of play.

In the final eight minutes, Teague opened up a double digit lead behind 10 points from Roblow and four from K. Nickleberry.

Try as they might, Crockett was unable to close the gap as time ran down. D. James had four, M. James had two and Lockhart had two to make the final score 54-41, Teague.

For the game, the Lady Lions were led by KaDaja Nickleberry with 19 and Destanee Roblow with 17. Ashley Nickleberry chipped in seven, Kennedy Bennett and Caelyn Thompson both had four and Susan Steen added three.

The Lady Bulldogs were led by Dea’Junique Janes with a game high 22 points. Jaida Lockhart scored six and Mercedes James had four. Both Anastasia Bolton and A’linjah McKnight had three, Tynaissha McKnight had two and Shabess Johnson scored one.
