Two Vehicle Wreck Claims Life of Grapeland Man

GRAPELAND – A two vehicle wreck claimed the life of a Grapeland man at the intersection of U.S. 287 and FM 228 over the weekend.

“The preliminary crash investigation indicates a 2008 Chevrolet passenger car disregarded the stop intersection at FM 228 and was struck by a 2007 Dodge pickup that was traveling south on U.S. Hwy. 287,” according to a statement released by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

DPS Troopers were dispatched to the scene at 1:08 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 10 in reference to the collision. The driver of the Chevrolet was identified as 83-year-old Mitchell Tutor from Grapeland.

Tutor was transported to a Tyler area hospital where he was pronounced dead at 4:50 p.m., Dec. 10, due to the extent of injuries suffered in the wreck, the DPS Press release stated.

The pickup was driven by 68-year-old Deborah Clanton of Centerville, who was reported to be uninjured.

The crash remains under investigation by DPS officials.
