Grapeland Boys, Girls Golf Capture District Crowns

HOUSTON COUNTY – The Grapeland Sandies and Sandiettes are looking to get back to the Austin area for a shot at state titles in golf once again this year. They took the first step on Monday, April 9 when they competed in the District 20-AA Golf Tournament held at the Spring Creek Country Club, outside of Crockett.

As a team, the Sandiettes finished in first place with a score of 377. Hannah Chipman carded an 86 to lead the way for the Sandiettes. Cheney Boyd was right behind her with an 87. Rounding out the team scores Madelyn Conner shot 98, Mary Jane Watson had a 106 and Carly Parker shot a 111.

The Latexo Lady Tigers finished second as a team with a combined score of 458. Kelsey Patterson paced Latexo with a 96 while Jordan Davenport shot a 102. Tori Woodford finished with a 121 and Maggie Gibbons shot 139.

Lovelady Lady Lion Danielle Turner was the low scoring individual as she shot an 81. The Grapeland duo of Chipman and Boyd finished second and third at the individual level. Latexo’s Patterson was fourth, Grapeland’s Conner was fifth and Latexo’s Davenport was sixth.

Other golfer’s for the girls included Grapeland Sandiettes Amy Crook and Gracie Conner with a 140 and 142, respectively. Lovelady’s Olivia Wilson shot a 147.

On the boys’ side of the course, the defending Class 2A State Champion Grapeland Sandies finished first as a team with a combined score of 297. The Sandies were led by Brayden Cheatham who finished in first place with a 68. Rick Frauenberger finished second with a 73 and Case Boyd was third with a 75. Jason Bobbitt was fourth with an 81 and Dylan Duhon was fifth with an 82.

The Lovelady Lions finished in second position with a team score of 352. The Lions were paced by Chad Fulgham who finished sixth with a round of 84. Seth Campbell shot an 86, while Ethan Tullos and Hunter Patton both carded a 91.

Other individual golfers included Latexo Tigers Peyton Turn who carded a 91 and Jack Woodford who shot a 98.
