CROCKETT – After weeks of negotiation, holidays, delays, lost titles and deeds, the transfer of ownership of the former state school facility – located at 1701 SW Loop 304 – from the city of Crockett to Crockett ISD is complete.

During a joint meeting of the Crockett City Council and Crockett Independent School District Board of Trustees, held on Monday, Jan. 22, the two entities signed the paperwork necessary to complete the transaction.

“I think we have all the documents in order. I have been in contact with (Crockett City Administrator) Mr. (John) Angerstein and the city.  I believe that we have every document that we need to fulfill the sale agreement. We have the title commitments for both pieces of property and the deed without warranty which will be presented to the city for our property. I believe everything is in order,” CISD Superintendent Terry Myers said, as the meeting got underway.

Myers said the city would receive a down payment on the property during the course of the meeting and the remainder of the balance would be wired to the city on Tuesday, Jan. 23.

Motions were made, seconded and unanimously approved by both the council and by the board to complete the transfer of ownership.

Once all the documents had been signed, CISD Board President Lela Wheeler addressed the packed board room.

“At this time, let me be the first to say how excited I am to complete this transaction with the city of Crockett. I can visualize what it will do for our community and our county. Thank you to the city of Crockett and to the Board of Directors for Crockett ISD,” she said.

“We are really glad this is finally done. We are excited to see what will happen. This is going to be an asset for our city,” Crockett Mayor Joni Clonts added.
