Sandies Hammer Tigers, 94-45

 LATEXO – The Grapeland Sandies are gunning for their eighth consecutive district championship and took another step towards that goal as they defeated the Latexo Tigers by a score of 94-45 on Friday, Feb. 3.

The Sandies opened the game on fire as they raced out to a 26-5 lead after the first eight minutes of play. Parker Wilson paced Grapeland with seven points in the opening quarter while Rick Frauenberger dropped in six. Rodney Davis netted five and Riley Chipman threw in four while both Tink McQuirter and Kamari Smith had two.

The Tigers’ points came from Sonny Townsend with three and Kase Miller with two.

As the second quarter got underway, the Sandies quickly pushed their lead to 30. Davis poured in nine points in the second period of play while Smith had four. Case Boyd dropped in a 3-point bomb and Chipman added a basket to make the score 44-14.

Tristan Curless nailed a three pointer for the Tigers while Miller, Townsend and Jack Woodford all scored two.

Latexo seemed to find their shooting touch in the third quarter as the Tigers scored 18 points using four 3-pointers to go along with a pair of 2-pointers. Woodford nailed two from behind the arc, as well as a mid-range jumper for eight third quarter points. Justin Bobbitt and Carter Catoe both dropped in 3-pointers of their own and Townsend chipped in a two point basket to round out the Latexo third quarter point production.

While the Tigers heated up offensively, so did the Sandies as the poured in 30 points to make the score 74-32 after three periods of play. Chipman and Wilson both netted six points, while Frauenberger and Tyrin Wiley added four apiece. McQuirter and Smith scored three apiece as both Boyd and Davis added two.

In the fourth quarter, Latexo was led by Woodford with seven and Townsend with six.

The Sandies continued to add to their total in the final period of play as Davis netted eight points and Wiley had seven.  Wilson dropped in four and McQuirter added two to round out the scoring and help give Grapeland the 94-45 win.

The Tigers were led in scoring by Jack Woodford with 17 points. Sonny Townsend added 13 and Kase Miller dropped in six, while a trio of Tigers – Justin Bobbitt, Tristan Curless and Carter Catoe all
scored three.

Rodney Davis led five Grapeland players in double figures with 24 points. Parker Wilson poured in 17 while Riley Chipman added 12. Rick Frauenberger and Tyrin Wiley both went for 10 as Kamari Smith powered in nine. Tink McQuirter had seven and Case Boyd added six to account for the Sandies’ scoring.
