LATEXO – The Latexo Lady Tigers welcomed the Onalaska Lady Wildcats to Houston County on Tuesday, Aug. 6 and promptly sent them back home with their tails tucked between their legs following a 3-0 straight sets victory.

The Lady Wildcats compete at the 3A level while the Lady Tigers are classified as a 2A level team. In the opening set, it appeared as if Onalaska had a height advantage over Latexo and put it to good use as they jumped ahead early in the match. The Lady Tigers were having none of that, however, and came roaring back to take the first set by a margin of 25-12.

Latexo’s aggressivenonalaska-vs-latexoess and net play in the first set seemed to establish a tone and allowed the Lady Tigers to wrap up the match in the next two sets and head into district play with a win. On Friday, Latexo hit the road for their district opener against the Lovelady Lady Lions in Lovelady.

The Lady Lions are coming off of a five set loss to the Crockett Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday and both teams appear ready to battle it out for a shot at one of the four playoff berths up for grabs from district 22-2A. Unfortunately, the final results of the Latexo and Lovelady match were unavailable as of press time.

While there are four spots available for the postseason, it really may only be three as the Iola Lady Bulldogs are the top rated team in Class 2A and have only dropped one match this year.

The Lady Tigers are joined in District 22-2A by: the Centerville Lady Tigers; the Grapeland Sandiettes; the Iola Lady Bulldogs; the Kennard Lady Tigers; the Lovelady Lady Lions; the Normangee Lady Panthers; and the North Zulch Lady Bulldogs.
