Crockett Wallops Westwood, 93-36

CROCKETT – On a chilly Friday night, the Crockett Bulldogs welcomed the Westwood Panthers to the Andrew J. Hopkins Activity Center for a District 20-3A contest.

The Bulldogs were still smarting from a two-point loss to the Buffalo Bison on Tuesday and unfortunately it was the Panthers who bore the brunt of Crockett’s ire as the boys in blue and white demolished the visiting Panthers by a final of 93-36.

Crockett opened the game on fire from the field as they scored 23 in the first eight minutes of play while holding the Panthers to only a pair of free throws from Brody McClelland.

DJ Walker lit up the scoreboard for the Bulldogs with nine first quarter points while Chris Purvis added five and Ty white dropped in four. Jalyne Carruthers nailed a three pointer and Bre’Dron Tucker had two as Crockett led by 21 after one.

The Panthers offense finally got going in the second quarter as they managed to make a few shots from the field. Kylance Parrish got in the scorebook with five points while McLelland added four. Aaron Johnson and Brandon Russell both had two while Samuel Alade and Devonte Downie both chipped in a point to close out the Westwood first half scoring.

The Bulldogs slowed the tempo down somewhat in the second as they only put up 16 points in the period. Tucker led the way with eight while Courtney Byrd came alive with five points in the quarter. White added two and Chris Purvis made one of two from the line to help Crockett take a 39-17 lead into the locker room at halftime.

After the break, things didn’t get any easier for the Panthers as the Crockett defense tightened up and held them to only 12 points in the third quarter. Downie had four while Johnson knocked down a three. Alade and Noah Cheatham both had two while Parish made one of two from the line.

The third period of play saw Walker and White pace the Bulldogs with eight and seven points, respectively. Byrd added five while Purvis and Tayshawn Simon had two each as the Bulldogs took a 63-29 lead into the fourth quarter.

In the final period of play, the Bulldogs left no doubt about the outcome of the game as they pushed a 34-point lead into a 47-point win.

The Panthers managed to keep up with the Bulldogs in the opening minutes of the period but Crockett began to pull away late as Crockett won by a final score of 93-46.

Westwood’s fourth quarter points came from Downie with 10 while Johnson had five and Alade had a bucket to close out the Panthers’ point production.

Walker led the way for Crockett with 11 points in the final frame while Tucker added six. Ryley Rischer dropped in four and Jacobi Houston connected from behind the three-point line. Both Byrd and Carlester Nealy had two apiece while Purvis closed out the Bulldogs’ scoring with one.

On the game, the Panthers were led by Devonte Downie with 15 points and Aaron Johnson with 10. Brody McLelland and Kylance Parish both had six, Samuel Alade had five and Noah Cheatham, along with Brandon Russell, had two apiece.

The Bulldogs were led in scoring by DJ Walker with a game-high 28 points. Also, in double-figures for Crockett were Bre’Dron Tucker with 16, Ty White with 13 and Courtney Byrd with 12. Chris Purvis dropped in nine, Ryley Rischer had four as both Jalyne Carruthers and Jacobi Houston both had three. Rounding out the scoring for the Bulldogs, Carlester Nealy and Tayshawn Simon both had two apiece.
