Lady Elks Thump Lady Tigers, 73-30

ELKHART – The Latexo Lady Tigers took part in the Elkhart Varsity Basketball Tournament over the weekend and on Friday night they drew the host team for a primetime matchup.
The Lady Elks wasted little time in jumping out to an early lead as their defense held the Lady Tigers to six points in the first eight minutes. Preslie Beavers netted four for Latexo and was joined by Katie Goolsby in the scoring column with two.
Elkhart was led by Alana Canaday with five points while Madison Crader, Jayci Moseley and Lynsie Walding all had four to give the Lady Elks a 17-6 lead after the first period.
Latexo’s shooting woes continued in the second quarter as they only tallied six points once again. Maggie Gibbins netted four while Beavers added the other two.
Canaday continued her hot shooting for Elkhart as she knocked down seven in the second quarter. Walding and Laci McEnturff had four apiece while three other Lady Elks – Crader, Brandi Cain and Haleigh Chapin – all had two apiece to give Elkhart a 39-12 lead at the break.
The Lady Elks salted the game away in the third quarter as they held the Lady Tigers to three points on a two from Gibbins and a free throw from Goolsby.
Meanwhile, Chapin heated up for Elkhart and dropped in seven. Canaday added four to her total while Cain, Crader, McEnturff and Walding all chipped in two.
With the score 57-15 at the start of the fourth quarter, the Lady Tigers finally found their shooting touch and went for 15 in the final period of play. Gibbins and Goolsby both dropped in five, while Beavers drained a three and Andrea Machuca had two.
Canaday led Elkhart with six fourth quarter points while Crader had five. Chapin and Mallory Mitchell each had two and McEnturff closed out the Elkhart scoring by making one of two from the charity stripe.
On the game, Latexo was led by Maggie Gibbins with 11 points. Preslie Beavers knocked down nine, Katie Goolsby had eight and Andrea Machuca chipped in a basket to round out the Lady Tigers’ scoring.
Alana Canaday had a game-high 22 points for the Lady Elks to lead all scorers. Madison Crader poured in 13 and Haleigh Chapin had 11. Lynsie Walding was also in double figures with 10. Laci McEnturff had seven while Brandi Cain and Jayci Moseley each had four. Mallory Mitchell rounded out the Elkhart scoring with two points.
