Crockett ISD Cosmetology Program Opens Salon to Public

CROCKETT — Crockett Independent School District’s cosmetology program is opening its salon to the public, giving community members access to affordable personal-care services while providing students with practical experience working with clients.
The student stylists will accept appointments from 1 to 3 p.m. on selected Wednesdays throughout the 2026-27 school year. Services will include haircuts and styling, manicures, pedicures, facials, waxing and lash lifts.
The program remains under the direction of Natalie Commander, who has led it since the district unveiled its cosmetology facility in May 2024.
At the facility’s opening, Commander said one of the program’s most rewarding features was that students could graduate prepared to enter the workforce and begin earning money.
The cosmetology center was created as part of Crockett ISD’s career and technical education program. The district converted an unused science laboratory at the end of its administration building into a modern salon classroom equipped with styling stations, hair dryers, shampoo stations and dedicated manicure and pedicure areas.
The center also has its own entrance and parking area, allowing members of the public to visit the salon without disrupting other district operations.
When the facility opened, the district made 24 positions available to incoming juniors, with plans to add another group of 24 students the following year as the original class advanced toward certification. Those students are now gaining the supervised, hands-on experience envisioned when the program was established.
Hair services offered to the public include shampoo and blow-dry for $12; shampoo, blow-dry and flat-iron or curl styling for $18; shampoo and set for $18; deep-conditioning treatments for $12; thermal styling for $10; and updos beginning at $20.
All haircuts include shampoo and blow-dry. Men’s haircuts are $12, women’s haircuts are $18 and children’s haircuts for those younger than 12 are $10.
Nail services include basic manicures for $12, basic pedicures for $15, spa manicures for $15 and spa pedicures for $18. Gel polish may be added to any nail service for $5.
The salon also offers basic facials for $18, spa facials and lash lifts for $25 each, eyebrow waxing for $10, lip or chin waxing for $8 each and full-face waxing for $30.
Appointments will be available Sept. 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30; Oct. 7, 14, 21 and 28; Nov. 4, 11 and 18; and Dec. 2 and 16.
The salon will reopen after the holiday break Jan. 6, 13, 20 and 27; Feb. 3, 10, 17 and 24; March 3, 17, 24 and 31; April 7; and May 5 and 12.

By opening the salon to the community, the district is allowing students to develop their technical abilities, customer-service skills and confidence while working toward careers in the cosmetology industry.
