DUMBEST CRIMINAL NOMINEES CAUGHT IN CROCKETT

By Greg Ritchie

Messenger Reporter

CROCKETT – A message was sent on Facebook Wednesday July 13 from a local resident reporting her father’s motorcycle had been stolen. The victim reported the motorcycle had been taken between 3 and 4 in the afternoon off of 4th street in Crockett. The suspect was reported to be a white male with black hair and beard.

Fast forward to Monday July 18 when the victim was at the Houston County Sheriff’s Office parking lot to give additional information about the stolen motorcycle and its possible whereabouts.

As the officer was speaking to the victim…wait for it…the stolen motorcycle came driving by right in front of them. The officers stopped the driver a little further down on 4th street and found Cordell Ferguson driving along with passenger Brandi Soape.

The motorcycle had been painted blue and the VIN sticker on the frame had been obliterated.  A secondary VIN was located in another location and the motorcycle was verified as belonging to the victim.

Ferguson was placed under arrest and found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia.  Soape was found to be in possession of about 3 grams of methamphetamine and was also placed under arrest.  Ferguson was charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Class C Misdemeanor) and Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle (State Jail Felony).  Soape was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 >1 Gram <4 Grams (3rd Degree Felony).  The motorcycle was returned to the victim.

The victim returned to Facebook thanking the Crockett police and Sheriff’s office for helping find the motorcycle, saying one officer helped even though it was his day off.

It may have been Socrates or perhaps Confucius who said, “If you’re going to steal a motorbike, don’t drive it by the sheriff’s office when the police are taking the victim’s statement.”
