HOUSTON COUNTY – As the Christmas season approaches, many families will gather together to enjoy the holidays. For some, however, the holidays serve as a stark reminder that barely making ends meet throughout the year leaves little room for extra during Christmas time.

That’s where Houston County SHARE comes in. Houston County SHARE is a non-profit organization that seeks to provide food, clothing and other aid on an as needed basis to the people of Houston County.

According to SHARE’s Cliff Coldiron, “We help low income families that meet the criteria we have set using the guidelines of the The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP). That’s how we determine if people are eligible for food, clothing and assistance. We use the same criteria for toys as well.”

And once again, on Nov. 25, the SHARE Christmas Store opened its doors to those in need. SHARE helps families who need a little assistance during the Christmas season by providing one toy, socks and stocking stuffers for children ages 0-13.

“The folks come in and if they have children who are 14 years or younger we send them back to the toy room,” Coldiron said. “We’ve only had it open for two days. Anyone can come to us every 30 days for a couple of days’ worth of food if they are in a pinch.”

SHARE is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 until 11:30 am. The organization will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Please consider sharing the spirit of Christmas this season. All donations are welcome. For more information about Houston County SHARE, please contact them at 936-544-5600. To make a donation, stop by their location at 206 8th St. in Crockett.
