LATEXO – Earlier this month, the Latexo ISD Board of Trustees selected long-time educator and current LISD Counselor Kim Watson as the district’s high school principal.

According to LISD Superintendent Michael Woodard, “We are extremely happy to announce Kim Watson as the next high school principal. Mrs. Watson has worked in Latexo ISD for 29 years. She has served as teacher, UIL coach, academic advisor, and principal as well as many more titles and roles for our district. She is well respected by our students, staff and parents and will continue our excellent programs at Latexo ISD. I cannot think of a better person for the job and I’m proud for her.”

Shortly after she was hired, Watson was contacted and asked about her new role as the LHS principal.

“After I had been in the office for a year (as counselor), working with Mr. Woodard, I feel he has a keen eye on positioning people. I think he has a strong vision and sees the potential to make Latexo an even better school than we already are. We are really working on our CTE programs and I found he is a very easy person to work with. I also believe we will have a very strong team in place to move the district forward,” she said.

As far as her vision for the high school, Watson said she was a firm believer in hard work and perseverance.

“I don’t accept mediocrity and I don’t accept failure. I feel our school can become an even better school system with the right leadership in place, the guidance of Mr. Woodard and the support of our school board. This is exciting for me. I want to work with people who want to make the school a better place,” Watson said.

Concerning any challenges she foresees, Watson indicated it was important for students to buy into the concept of excelling both in and outside of the classroom.

“I think making kids believe they can be a strong academic student as well as participating in FFA, UIL or athletics is important and that they can be successful. Also, all the different things a kid needs to learn in order for them to get there are important. They are important not just because it is an educational facility, but also because it can serve as a springboard into life,” she explained.

Watson was also asked what she would like to tell the students and the parents of students as she embarks in her new role.

“We are going to have pride in our school. We are going to be at our best wherever we may go. Anything and everything we do at our school, we are representing a community and a family unit. I want those kids to have pride in what they do and to be winners – as far as that they know they have persevered and done their best,” Watson said.
