District Play Now Underway

EAST TEXAS – District play has started for several area teams while several started league action on Friday, Sept. 21.

In District 21-2A, the Neches Lady Tigers are atop the standings with a 4-0 record after they defeated Cayuga Lady Wildcats Tigers and the Oakwood Lady Panthers, all with identical 2-0 records.

On Friday, Sept. 14 Neches defeated Cayuga in a five game match. The scores were 27-25, 19-25, 25-23, 22-25 and 15-6.  Three days later, the Lady Tigers swept the Lady Panthers in three by scores of 25-18, 25-9 and 25-17.

Cayuga is right behind Neches in second place with a district record of 3-1. Following the loss to Neches, the Lady Wildcats blistered the Trinidad Lady Trojans in three on Tuesday. The scores of the match were 25-17, 25-14 and 25-13.

The Lady Bobcats of Cross roads defeated Trinidad on Sept. 7 and took down Kerens on Sept. 11.

The Grapeland Sandiettes evened their district record at 2-2 in district play. The Sandiettes defeated Oakwood in three by scores of 25-17, 25-19 and 25-23. On Tuesday of this week, Grapeland hit the road to take on the Cross Roads Lady Bobcats. After losing the first game, the Sandiettes roared back to win the match by scores of 23-25, 25-23, 25-19 and 25-14.

The Latexo Lady Tigers saw their district record fall to 1-3 after losses to Cross Roads and Kerens.

In District 22-2A, the Lovelady Lady Lions have not started district play. They began district play on Friday against the Iola Lady Bulldogs. As of press time, no scores were available.

District 20-3A is led by the Westwood Lady Panthers after the second week of district competition. They defeated the Groesbeck Lady Goats in four games by scores of 14-25, 25-19, 25-23 and 25-19. The Lady Panthers had a bye on Tuesday.

The Elkhart Lady Elks are just behind the leaders with a 3-1 record. The Lady Elks defeated the Crockett Lady Bulldogs by scores of 25-14, 25-11 and 25-11 and swept the Buffalo Lady Bison in three by scores of 25-9, 25-16 and 25-22.

The Crockett Lady Bulldogs are 1-3 in District 20-3A. Following their loss to Elkhart, the Lady Bulldogs picked up their first district win of the season with a victory over Frankston by scores of 25-19, 25-22, 23-25, 16-25 and 15-13.

The Frankston Maidens are 0-3 in district play after a bye last Friday and a loss to the Crockett Lady Bulldogs.

In District 19-4A, the Palestine Lady Cats have not started league play. The Lady Cats defeated Athens in three games on Friday, Sept. 14 by scores of 25-16, 25-21 and 25-18. On Tuesday of last week, the Lady Cats took down East Texas Christian in five. The scores were 17-25, 26-24, 25-14, 14-25 and 21-19.

The Madisonville Lady Mustangs are also in District 19-4A and like Palestine, they haven’t started league play. The Lady Mustangs fell to Montgomery in three on Sept. 14 by scores of 13-25, 19-25 and 16-25. Madisonville also lost to the Grand Oaks (Conroe) Lady Grizzlies on Tuesday.

Both the Lady Cats and Lady Mustangs begin district play on Sept. 21.
