HOUSTON COUNTY – The Houston County Hospital District (HCHD) Board of Directors met on Tuesday, Sept. 11 and for the first time in two months, there was no drama to watch unfold in the Crockett Medical Center Cafeteria.

The meeting was called to order by HCHD Board President Dr. Bob Grier who requested those in attendance take a moment to reflect on those affected by the events of Sept. 11, 2001.

Once the moment of reflection concluded, Grier made several announcements.

“Carter Blood Care makes somewhat regular visits to the Crockett area. If you’re a blood donor and you have a pencil and paper, I would like you to mark down the date of Sept. 21 where they will be at the resource center. On Oct. 15, they will be at Lovelady High School, Oct. 16 they will be at Latexo High School and on Oct. 19 they will be at the Houston County Electric Co-Op,” he said.

“The hospital is doing well,” Grier continued. “The emergency room, I’m but sad to say, there have been a number of patients come through. The reports I’m getting are very positive. The ambulance service is doing well. They made 206 transports during the month of August.”

Following the announcements, the first order of business was to swear in the newest HCHD board member, Pat Dickey.

HCHD Board Secretary Barbara Crowson requested Dickey to come to the front of the room so she administer the oath of office to the new board member. After she was sworn in, Crowson took her seat as the representative of Place 3.

“The next item on our agenda is to adopt the effective tax rate of $0.149405 per $100 of property valuation. That is the effective rate going forward. I would like to have some conversation from the board or any comments,” Grier said.

“I think it is the proper thing for us to do,” Crowson said. “I realize we may have lost a little money by not being able to do this last time, but I’m prepared to support this.”

Grier remarked that based on the Houston County Appraisal District’s valuation “… this will bring in $1.614 million. That is the calculated estimate of this tax rate.”

With no further comments, a motion was made accepted and unanimously approved.

The last item of business was the appointment of committees “… to carry out projects and be ongoing to work with the board,” Grier said.

The finance committee will consist of Rhonda Brown, Larry Robbins and Grier.

The negotiation committee will consist of Dr. Perry Ramsey and Larry Robbins.

The by-laws committee will consist of Barbara Crowson, Carol Dawson, Dr. John Stovall and Dina Pipes.

The ambulance committee will consist of Barbara Crowson, Carol Dawson, Dr. Perry Ramsey and Dina Pipes.
