CROCKETT – The body of a white male, discovered in Crockett on Friday, June 22 has been identified, according to Crockett Police Chief David “Buddy” Cross.

He has been identified as Steven L. Kron, age 34, from Lovelady, Cross said.

“We found him here at the intersection of Gordon and San Jacinto in a creek bed. It looks like the water had pushed him down the creek and stopped him at the concrete pillar in the middle of the creek. We had a bunch of rain on Wednesday and it looked like he had been there awhile,” the police chief said.

Cross added the deceased’s body would be sent to Dallas for an autopsy.

“We are going to send two of our people up there in the morning (Saturday, June 23),” he added. “We really won’t know anything until after we do the autopsy and see what the cause and manner of death are.”

Asked specifically if there were any signs of foul play, Cross replied, “Nothing that we see at this point. We treat every unattended as a homicide or a crime scene until we know otherwise.”

On Monday, June 25, the police chief informed The Messenger the autopsy results indicated no trauma was evidenced.

“Now, we’re just having to wait on the toxicology report to come back. That is usually four to six weeks,” he explained.

The police chief also expressed his appreciation to the Crockett Fire Department for their assistance in removing Kron’s body from the creek bed.

When questioned about when the police department first learned of the body, the police chief said it was shortly before 5 p.m. on Friday.

“We have called in the Texas Rangers to assist. That’s all we have right now. We are canvassing everyone in the neighborhood and talking to the people who were the last to see him, which was several days ago. We’re trying to get to the bottom of this and we have all hands on deck. Hopefully, after the autopsy, we will know what we are dealing with,” Cross said on Friday evening.
