KENNARD – The Grapeland Sandiettes traveled to Kennard to take on the Lady Tigers last Friday, March 23 in hopes of keeping their unbeaten district streak alive. If there was any doubt in the Sandiettes’ minds about the streak, once they arrived in Kennard there was no doubt as they hammered their hosts by a final score of 19-2.

Cierra Simon opened the game with a walk off of Kennard’s Ashley Roy. She stole second and third but was thrown out on a squeeze bunt from Kierra DeCluette. DeCluette reached first on the play and came around to score when Cheney Boyd tripled to left. Cadie Belle Currie was up next and hit a sharp grounder that got through for a single to drive in Boyd from third and make the score 2-0.

Currie was in the circle for the Sandiettes and she made quick work of the Lady Tigers. She got Roy to ground into a 4-3 force, struck out Maddi Morrow and then forced D. Ping to pop up to the circle for the third out.

Even though it was only the second inning, the Sandiettes put the game away when they came to bat. Grapeland scored four times before the first out, added two more between outs one and two and then poured it on with six more runs before the third out to make the score 14-0 after an inning and a half.

With a 14-run cushion, Currie gave up a hit to Tracy Cole but Cole was thrown out on the base paths to erase any threat she may have posed. Currie then struck out Kenzee Martin and Miranda Peacock to end the inning and send the game to the third.

The Sandiettes added five more runs in the top of the third to make the score 19-0. When Currie retired the Lady Tigers in order in the bottom half of the inning, the game was called.

Currie was credited with the win with three innings of work. She gave up one hit, stuck out five and did not walk anyone.

Roy was saddled with the loss after she pitched 1.1 innings. She gave up eight runs on seven hits struck out one and walked two. She was relieved by Tracy Cole who gave up 11 runs on four hits, struck out three and walked four.

At the plate for Grapeland, Cierra Simon was 2-3 with four RBI, three runs scored and a walk. Kierra DeCluette was 3-4 with four runs scored and three RBI. Cheney Boyd was 3-3 with three runs scored, three RBI and a walk.
