LOVELADY – The Lovelady Lions and Lady Lions had a strong showing during last year’s cross country season and they’re eyeing an even better season in 2017, according to Cross Country Coach Jeff Rollo.

“We have five girls coming back from the team that went to regionals and we have one boy plus two new faces today,” the coach said.

“We’re pretty excited about it. Last year was my first year to coach cross country and I was kind of just learning about it, but I know a little bit more about it and I’m looking forward to a fun and exciting season,” Rollo added.

As far as the expectations for this year’s team, Rollo said at a minimum, he expects the girls’ team to make a return trip to the regional meet.

“Last year,” Rollo added, “we had one girl who qualified individually for regionals and this year we would like to see more than just one – in addition to qualifying as a team. Then, we’ll see what we can do as far as advancing to state.”

“For the boys, I really don’t know just yet. We’ll see how it goes here at the start and then we’ll set the expectations for them,” he said.
