GRAPELAND – The employees of Vulcraft – a Division of Nucor – have stepped to help sponsor relief efforts for the victims of Hurricane Harvey.

According to Grapeland Noon Lions Club Secretary Laura Walling, “Donnis Collins, with Nucor, has contacted the Lions Club asking that we join their effort in collecting storm relief supplies.”

Walling stated Collins “… has contacted several other area clubs and churches suggesting we have a combined effort rather than doing different things.  Nucor has acquired a cargo container to collect supplies and will ship it to Montgomery County this Friday.”

She added, “Vulcraft employees are coordinating with the Montgomery County Shelter, which is already feeding over 400 people.”

Below is a list of items the Montgomery County Shelter requested:

  • Pillows
  • Wheel chairs
  • Large and Extra-large clothes
  • Socks
  • Blankets
  • Non-perishable food (Extra-large size cans)
  • Baby Formula
  • Diapers
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Towels
  • Comfort Kits (Tooth paste, soap, shampoo, etc.)

Nucor will be collecting items Wednesday and Thursday and possibly longer if needed. Donations may be made near the Vulcraft guard shack in the employee parking lot.

Please remember the thousands of fellow Texans who are in need right now and contribute to the storm relief effort as you are able.
