Weldon Bland Kerby, Jr.

Funeral services for Weldon Bland Kerby, Jr., age 77, of Grapeland were held at two o’clock in the afternoon Monday, the 26th day of June, 2017 at First Baptist Church in Grapeland. Rev. Tim Allen, Rev. Chuck Bratz and Rev. Todd Nivens officiated.  Interment followed in Parker Cemetery.  A visitation for family and friends was held from noon until two o’clock prior to the service. Mr. Kerby passed away Friday, the 23rd day of June, 2017 at his residence.  Weldon Kerby was born on the 20th day of November, 1939 in Wink, Texas to Weldon Bland Kerby, Sr. and Lela (Barnett) Kerby. He was a faithful Christian and Deacon at First Baptist Church in Grapeland. He attended Southwest School of Printing and was the owner of Grapeland Messenger and Grapeland Printing for over 30 years. Mr. Kerby was also a member of several organizations including Grapeland Lodge 473, Lions Club, Grapeland Jaycees, Grapeland City Council, Texas Press Association, Grapeland Volunteer Fire Department and E.M.S.

Weldon Kerby was preceded in death by his parents and brother, James Sidney Kerby.

Mr. Kerby is survived by his wife, Sandra (Herod) Kerby of Grapeland; daughter, D’Linda Mahaffey and husband Wayne of Grapeland; son, Jeff Kerby and wife Evelia of Grapeland; sister, Frances (Kerby) Mason and husband Jack of San Marcos; sister-in-law, Lauren Kerby of Daytona Beach; grandchildren, Rachel (Mahaffey) Huff, Michael Mahaffey, Miranda Kerby; great grandsons, Cash Huff, Hayes Huff and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Ben Childress, David Swanson, Troy Pennington, Chance Huff, Michael Mahaffey, Cary Mason, Dan Lee Craven and Gary Raines. Honorary Pallbearers were the Deacons of First Baptist Church in Grapeland.
