GRAPELAND – The Grapeland Sandiettes were looking to keep their momentum in district play going as they welcomed the Latexo Lady Tigers to the Storm Cellar for a Houston County duel. The Sandiettes were tied for the District 20-2A as they headed into the contest and when it was over, they were still standing at the top following their 75-27 destruction of the Lady Tigers.

While the Lady Tigers are much improved from previous years, they were unable to keep up with the Sandiettes speed and ball hawking abilities on defense. Grapeland raced out to a 25-9 lead after the first quarter of play and never looked back. Tatiyanna Bowie and Hannah Chipman worked the inside and outside as both scored eight points in the opening period of play. Kenya Woods knocked down five points while Ragan Bowie and DeDe McKnight both scored two.

The Lady Tigers first quarter scoring came from Baylee Granberry with eight and Gracie Zalesky with one.

Grapeland kept Latexo on their heels in the second quarter as Chipman scored 11, while Woods had six. R. Bowie knocked down a 3-pointer and T. Bowie had two to close out the first half with the Sandiettes ahead by a score of 47-21.

Latexo’s second quarter scoring came from Zalesky with six, Cinderella Rice with four and Kelsie Patterson with two.

After the break, the Sandiettes ratcheted up their defense and held the Lady Tigers to six second half points. Four of the six came in the third quarter on baskets by Patterson and Jordan Davenport.

The Sandiettes slowed their offensive tempo after the break but still posted 15 in the third quarter. Chipman and Woods both went for four while Reagan Bishop knocked down a 3-pointer as R. Bowie and McKnight dropped in two.

The fourth quarter belonged to the Sandiettes as Granberry was the only Lady Tiger to score. Meanwhile the Sandiettes got five points from Chipman and four from T. Bowie. Janassiah Creag and Sonia Davila both added two to round out the Grapeland scoring and help give the Sandiettes a 75-27 win over Latexo.

The Lady Tigers were led in scoring by Baylee Granberry with 10 and Gracie Zalesky with seven points.  Both Cinderella Rice and Kelsie Patterson had four while Jordan Davenport added two to account for the Latexo point production.

Grapeland was led by Hannah Chipman with a game high 28 points. Kenya Woods dropped in 15 and Tatiyanna Bowie had 14. Ragan Bowie netted seven, DeDe McKnight dropped in four, Reagan Bishop had three while both Janassiah Creag and Sonia Davila chipped in two.
