DALLARDSVILLE – The Grapeland Sandiettes continued their tour of East Texas on Tuesday night as they found themselves in Dalladsville for a game against the Big Sandy Lady Wildcats.

After closing out the first half of district play with an overtime win on the road against the Centerville Lady Tigers on Friday, Jan. 20, it might have been easy to look past the Lady Wildcats who are struggling in District 20-2A.

Grapeland Coach Anthony DeCello would have none of that as the Sandiettes came roaring out of the gates defensively. While it’s not quite softball season, the girls from Grapeland pitched a shutout in the first quarter and held the Lady Wildcats to a big fat goose egg in the scoring column.

While they were tenacious on “D,” the Sandiettes were less than stellar on the offensive end of the court as they only scored nine points. Hannah Chipman accounted for five of those while Tatiyanna Bowie and Kenya Woods divided the other four on an equal basis.

The Lady Wildcats scored their first points of the game in the second quarter as Kacie Overland found her rhythm and scored six. She was joined by Charity Battise with four and Liza Stafford with two.

Grapeland also seemed to find its offensive rhythm as the Sandiettes poured in 24 points to take a 33-12 lead at halftime. T. Bowie led the way with 10 points from the post. She was joined by a trio of Sandiettes – Chipman, Woods and KeKe Harris – with four apiece. Ragan Bowie chipped in a two to close out the second quarter and send the teams into their respective locker rooms for intermission.

After the break, the Sandiettes were back at it on defense. While they didn’t pitch a shutout in the third quarter, Grapeland managed to limit the Lady Wildcats to a single basket from Battise.

Chipman and T. Bowie continued to pace the Sandiettes after the break as Chipman scored seven and T. Bowie scored four. Joining the dynamic duo in the scoring column was DeDe McKnight who netted a two which made the score 46-14 at the end of the third.

With the game well in hand, Coach DeCello reigned in the defense somewhat as Big Sandy put up 13 points in the final frame. Stafford led the way with six while Taylor Battise hit a 3-pointer to go along with a pair of free throws. Jaiden Thompson also chipped in two from the charity stripe to round out the Lady Wildcats’ point production.

The Sandiettes put the game on cruise control in the final eight minutes of play as Aerianna Granderson dropped in a bomb from behind the arc as well as a two pointer for five in the fourth. T. Bowie and Chipman both added two, while Reagan Bishop joined in on the fun with a two of her own to close out the Grapeland scoring and help give the Sandiettes the 57-27 win.

The Lady Wildcats were led in scoring by Liza Stafford with eight points. Charity Battise and Kacie Overland each dropped in six, Taylor Battise went for five and Jaiden Thompson chipped in two to account for the Big Sandy output.

The Sandiettes were led by Tatiyanna Bowie and Hannah Chipman with 18 points apiece. Kenya Woods threw in six, Aerianna Granderson knocked down five and KeKe Harris had four. A trio of Sandiettes – Reagan Bishop, Ragan Bowie and DeDe McKnight – all scored two to account for the Grapeland point total.
