Phyllis Fournier Nimitz
June 23, 1951 – October 7, 2026
Phyllis Fournier Nimitz, 75, of Grapeland, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home on October 7, 2026, following a brief battle with cancer.
Phyllis was born on June 23, 1951, in Bridge City, Texas to Ray and Ruth Stevens Fournier. In 1968, at a DERA teen dance, a young man named Kolter Nimitz asked her to dance. She said yes, and the two spent the rest of the evening dancing and talking, neither knowing that one simple dance would be the beginning of a lifetime together. Through fifty-seven years of marriage, three children, and countless memories together, they never stopped dancing.
Following a successful career in banking, Phyllis embraced retirement and found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. Music was a special part of her life, and she expressed her faith in God through singing and playing the piano and organ at her church. She also enjoyed scrapbooking, traveling the country with her devoted husband, playing cards with family, and spending cherished time with loved ones on the farm. But perhaps Phyllis’s greatest pleasure was bringing joy to others. Whether through a thoughtful gesture, a kind word, or simply the time she took to make someone feel seen and appreciated, Phyllis had a way of making those around her feel loved. Her warmth, generosity and genuine interest in others left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Above all, Phyllis treasured her family. She took great pride in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchild, and the memories she created on the farm with those she loved will be cherished for generations, forever preserved in the many scrapbooks she lovingly created.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her loving parents, Ray and Ruth Fournier, and a brother, Steven Fournier.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Kolter Nimitz; her three children, Adam Nimitz and wife Stephanie, Natalie Klebek and husband Dan, and Barron Nimitz and wife Allison; her four sisters, Shirley Maynor, Patricia Davis, Faye Harrington, and Sarah Halliburton and one brother, Paul Fournier; nine grandchildren, Grace, Hope, Nate, Addi, Emmy, Thaddeus, Kaden, Alex, and Katalina; and one great-grandchild, Bennett.
Phyllis will be remembered not simply for the life she lived, but for the way she made others feel along the way.
