Elkhart ISD Issues Statement on School Safety

Messenger Reporter

ELKHART – Elkhart Independent School District (EISD) issued a letter regarding school safety Wednesday, Oct. 2. Although there were rumors about what may have prompted the letter, The Messenger was unable to contact district leaders, who usually do not confirm or deny information regarding underage students.

The letter said, “The Elkhart Independent School District administration, Police Department, and local law enforcement have thoroughly investigated a reported threat at Elkhart Middle School and determined it to be unfounded. We will continue to have an enhanced law enforcement presence on the Middle School campus and monitor the well-being of our staff and students, as their safety and security remains one of our top priorities. We take all potential threats seriously and act swiftly to ensure the safety of our school community. We appreciate the response of our staff, administration, Police Department and local law enforcement in resolving this situation. The school district encourages students, staff, parents, and community members to report any suspicious activities or potential threats to school administrators, EISD Police Officers, or local law enforcement.”

The letter was signed by EISD Superintendent Kyle Johnson.
