Lovelady Loses in Close Battle with Timpson

LOVELADY – The Lovelady Lions took a close loss to the Timpson Bears Friday, Sept. 6, after an intense fourth quarter saw Timpson come out on top, 50-48.
The game started off with no scoring in the first quarter but made up for it with 46 points scored in the fourth quarter.
In the first quarter, the Bears opening kick went out of bounds and the Lions took possession on the Lion 33. The Lions marched down the field in to the six yard line. The Bears set the Lions for a loss to the 12 and took over on downs. The Lion’s defense contained the Bears forcing a punt on 4th down. The Lions in turn had to punt on fourth down. The first quarter ended scoreless.
In the second quarter, Timpson had taken possession late in the first quarter on a Lion punt and move to the Lion 22 before turning the ball over on downs. The Lions fumbled on their 41 and Timpson was in for the pick 6 with 7:30 on the clock. The kick was good for the extra point. Lovelady 0 Timpson 7
The first scoring drove for the Lions stated on a fumble recovery by Cason Watson on the Timpson 19. Cortavies Whitaker hit the gap made by the offensive line, Cameron Lovelady, Tyler Gilchrist, Aiden Gearhart, Robert Barns and Case Pennington, up the middle and in for the TD with 4:52 on the clock. A Pierce pass to Kye Terry added the extra two. Lovelady 8 Timpson 7
Timpson answered with a QB TD on first down from their own 39 with 4:39 on the clock. The kick was good. Lovelady 8 Timpson 14
Beginning the third quarter, the Lions kick was downed at the Bears 35. Lions Lane Wilson and C. J. Wiley stopped the Bears on first down. The QB scored on second down with a 59 yd run with 11:12 on the clock. The kick was good. Lovelady 8 Timpson 21
A deep kick by the Bears looked like it was going to the end zone took a Bears roll and was fielded on the three yard line. The Lions went to work and Cortavies took the ball out to the nine, giving the Lions a little breathing room. Terry moved the Lions on out to the 17 for a 1st down. Aiden McIntyre gained five. Cortavies put the Lions over into Bear territory at the 47. Cortavies got a block by C. Lovelady and then a down field block by Jaden Shelton and was in for the TD with 9:22. Timpson called for a fair catch at the Timpson 37. They were tripped up at the 48 and then set back to the 40 on a penalty. Alan Baskin and John Gulledge held the Bears for a short two. Wilson broke up a pass with a solid hard hit. Terry made the stop on third down forcing the Bears to punt. The punt rolled out of bounds at the Lion 11.
QB Pierce took the snap from Gearhart and handed of to Cortavies and he was quickly out to the 23. Courtney was stopped at the line of scrimmage. Courtney made up for it on the next down gaining 5. Pierce completed a pass to Jaden Shelton and he was down the left sideline for the TD with 5:04 on the clock. Cortavies was in for a stand up two. Lovelady 24 Timpson 21
Timpson fielded the Lion kick on th Bears 40. In three downs they were on the Lions 33. Gilchrist stopped the Bears for a gain of six. Wilson met the QB at the line of scrimmage and shut him down. However in three more downs the Bears scored on a TD pass with 1:51 on the clock. The kick was good putting the Bears back on top. Lovelady 24 Timpson 28
Courtney fielded the Bears kick for the Lions at the 35. Cortavies lunged forward for a hard two. Cortavies again took the hand off and hit the gap opened by the offensive line an cut left and over to the Bears 35. Courtney spinning his way forward for two as the time expired in the third quarter.
The fourth quarter started quick with Cortavies charging up the middle for the TD with 11:54 on the clock. Cortavies followed his line in for the extra two. Lovelady 32 Timpson 28
Timpson answered back fielding the kick on their own 42. The Lion defense held the Bears on first and second down. On third down the QB, who could be called Houdini because he can get out of anything, broke loose and was in for the TD with 10:36 on the clock. The kick was good. Lovelady 32 Timpson 35
Courtney fielded the Bears kick at the Lion 40. McIntyre carried the ball twice on this drive for a total of 12 yards. Cortavies carried five out of the seven including a three yard TD with 7:20 on the clock. McIntyre topped it of for the extra two. Lovelady 40 Timpson 35
Timpson’s next scoring drive started at the Timpson 32. They scored in seven down with 4:49 on the clock. The two-point conversion was good. Lovelady 40 Timpson 43
Terry fielded the Timpson kick at the 14 and returned it to the Lion 29. Cortavies carried for the first two downs advancing the Lions to the 39. QB, Pierce moved the Lions up 6 on a QB keeper. McIntyre gained another yard for the Lions. Cortavies took off for the endzone with Barret Stauffer and Terry blocking for him. Scoring with 1:49 on the clock and the 2 point conversion failed. Timpson wasted no time, #8 (QB) returning the kick off 70 yards for the TD with 1:39 on the clock. The kick was good. Lovelady 46 Timpson 50
Timpson’s kick was fielded by McIntyre on the 15 and returned to the 29. In three downs Cortavies’ carries had put the Lions on the Timpson 32. The Lion’s pass was intercepted on the 5 yard line. Timpson moved the ball out to the 16 and then the Lions set them for a 6 yard loss. With only seconds left on the clock, the Bear QB fumbled the snap back into the endzone, Lovelady’s Gilchrist came up with the ball. However we only got credit for a safety. Lovelady 48 Timpson 50
