Latexo High School Students Compete in State Competition

Special to the Messenger

LATEXO –  National Beta members from Latexo High School are celebrating their recent participation in the Texas Senior Beta State Convention. They were announced as winners of the following competitions:  Agriscience Grade 10, Math Grade 11, Math Grade 12, and Poetry Division ll.

National Beta State Convention allows students the opportunity to compete in various academic and STEM-based, virtual and performing arts competitions. State Convention was offered as a hybrid event. This gave students the opportunity to compete either virtually or onsite at the Gaylord Texan in Grapevine, depending on their level of comfort. These victories at the state level provide an opportunity to compete at the national level. National Convention will be held at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville, KY during Summer 2023.

Latexo ISD’s Barbara Simpson said, “As sponsor of Beta Club, I am excited to see our students not only compete, many stepping out of their comfort zones in doing so, but also attend convention.  Those in attendance have returned with a determination to compete in more events next year, to bring home even more hardware, and to increase our presence at the state convention next year.”

“This was our second year, in recent years, to participate in state convention,” Simpson said. “We had twenty-two members compete in 25 virtual contests and we had eight members attend the convention competing in 12 onsite competitions.  Our members who qualified for national competition are:  Tobi Curless in Agriscience grade 10, Carter Tucker in Math grade 11, Brandie Jackson in Math grade 12 and Claire Catoe in Poetry division ll.  We wish them success at this next level of competition.”

With more than 500,000 active members and 9,000 clubs nationally and internationally, National Beta has become the nation’s largest independent, non-profit, educational youth organization.
