Holiday Season Brings Out The Worst in Some Drivers

CROCKETT –  With several people arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) over the New Year holiday, again people did not heed the numerous warnings from law enforcement and this newspaper to make a plan and designate a driver. 

Arrested for DUI over the weekend:

  • Jason Glenn Fogel, 42 years old, arrested 12/31/2022 by Texas Department of Public Safety
  • Steven Edward Slovak, 38 years old, arrested 1/1/2023 by Texas Department of Public Safety
  • Tiffany Ann Shupak, 37 years old, arrested 1/1/2023 by Crockett Police Department 
  • Ruby Ann McKenzie, 58 years old, arrested 12/28/2022 by Houston County Sheriff’s Office

On Jan. 2 about 6 p.m., Crockett Police were dispatched to to the area of Spring Street and Dodson Drive in reference to a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle. Officers at the scene determined a male victim was walking down Spring Street headed towards North Fourth Street where witnesses told officers that a grey or silver 2015-2017 Chevrolet truck struck the victim and fled the scene. 

The victim was transported to Crockett Medical Center where he was later transferred to a hospital out of town. The victim sustained serious injuries as a result of being struck. 

Crockett Police are asking anyone with any information to contact the Crockett Police Department at 936-544-2021 and speak with Sgt. Matthew Millican. Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Deep East Texas Crime Stoppers at 936-639-TIPS. 

The case remains under investigation. It is not known if alcohol played any part in the hit-and-run accident.
