TRINITY – The Crockett Bulldogs hit the road on Friday, Sept. 27 as they traveled down Hwy. 19 to face the Trinity Tigers.

The Bulldogs came into the contest with a 2-1 record and were coming off of a bye week while the Tigers were 0-4 and looking for their first win of the season.

After the first minute of the game, it wasn’t even close. The Bulldogs scored early and they scored often as they built a 42-0 lead by the end of the first half and coasted to a 45-0 win.

The Bulldogs opened the game with possession of the ball at the Tigers’ 47-yard line. Joseph Porter, Jr. picked up 10 yards on first down and then Jordan Bedford threw an incomplete pass. Porter gained another nine on his second carry of the night and then Amyron Dixon picked up three more to move the ball to the Trinity 25-yard line.

On the very next play, Bedford dropped back to pass and saw a wide open Allen Horace. The Crockett QB threw a dart to his tight end and Horace took it the rest of the way to pay dirt. The extra point by Antonio Cruz was good and with less than two minutes gone, Crockett led by a score of 7-0.

When Crockett kicked off, Cruz boomed a kick that pushed the Trinity receiver back to his own goal line. As he tried to make up some ground, a Bulldog special team’s player dropped him at the six.

The Tigers went nowhere and were forced to punt. On the snap, the ball was dropped and with the Bulldogs rush closing in, the punter barely managed to get off the kick.

The kick went out of bounds at the Trinity 21, giving Crockett a short field to work with. Porter picked up seven yards on first down, Bedford threw incomplete pass on second and then Dixon took it the remaining 14 yards for a TD. The Cruz PAT made the score 14-0 with 7:55 still left in the first quarter.

Trinity’s next possession was somewhat better as they managed to get near the midfield stripe before the Crockett defense forced a punt.

The Bulldogs took over on their own 24 and on first down Bedford connected with Horace for 25 yards out to the 49. Following a pick-up of four by Bedford and an incompletion, the Crockett QB connected with Cristian Brice on a 47-yard scoring strike. Omar Garcia knocked home the extra point and with 2:11 left in the first quarter, Crockett now led 21-0.

Following the kickoff, Trinity took possession at their own 26 and went backwards as the quarter came to an end.

The second quarter was no better for the home team than the first one. The Tigers were forced to punt at the 10:30 mark – and when they did – the punt was blocked, giving the Bulldogs the ball at the Trinity four.

Two plays later, Porter plowed his way into the end zone and with the Garcia kick, Crockett now led 28-0.

On the ensuing possession, the Tigers managed to drive into Bulldog territory. Trinity’s drive stalled at the 48, however, and they turned the ball over on downs.

On first down, Bedford connected with Emanuel Aldaco for seven yards and just barely missed Shannon Bacon running a post route on second down. Crockett ran the same play on third down and this time, the Bedford-to-Bacon connection worked for a 45-yard TD. The PAT was good and moved the Bulldogs’ lead out to 35-0 with 4:19 seconds left in the half.

The Tigers’ next possession went nowhere as Trinity turned the ball over on downs- once again – at their own 42. On the very next play, Bedford found the edge and outran the Trinity defenders for a 42-yard touchdown. The extra point was good which brought the first-half scoring to a close with Crockett ahead, 42-0.

Crockett Head Coach Jimmy Thompson quite literally called off the Dawgs at halftime as Crockett substituted liberally in the second half to give some of the team’s back-ups some playing time.

The only scoring came on a Cruz 41-yard FG with 8:08 left in the final period of play, which made the final score 45-0.

The Bulldogs are back home on Friday as they welcome the Diboll Lumberjacks to Monte Jack Driskell Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
