GRAPELAND – While the season ended in June, several of the post-season accolades are just now being released. One of these honors – just announced – is the Texas High School Baseball Coaches’ Association (THSBCA) Academic All-State Team.

Two Grapeland Sandies were selected for the Academic All-State Team.

Blake Howard

Pitcher/utility infielder Josh Ackley and first baseman Blake Howard were selected for the prestigious award. Both Ackley and Howard played key roles in the Sandies’ success on the baseball diamond over the last several years.

To qualify for the Academic All-State Team, a player must be a senior and have an overall GPA of 93 or above from grades 9-12. They must also be a member in good standing on the baseball team and have a good moral character.

The Messenger would like to extend our congratulations to Ackley and Howard for receiving this recognition and we would like to wish you the best of success in your future endeavors.
