LATEXO – The Latexo Independent School District Board of Trustees met in a regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, July 11 to begin finalizing contracts and bids for the upcoming 2019 – 2020 school year.

The meeting was opened at 6 pm by LISD Board VP Bobbie Jo Frizzell – filling in for Board President Kelly Nicol – who had a prior commitment.

Following the invocation and pledges, Frizzell moved the board into the actionable item portion of the agenda. The first order of business was a discussion about fuel bids requested by the district.

LISD Superintendent Michael Woodard informed the trustees only one bid had been received and that was from Crockett Farm and Fuel. A motion to accept the bid was unanimously approved.

The next agenda item concerned the DAEP (disciplinary alternative education program) contract with Crockett ISD.

“I recommend – like we did last year – to keep one seat with them at the same price of $4,000. We can go ahead and keep that seat and if we need more seats down the road, we can add them. I think it worked out pretty good for us,” the superintendent explained.

After a brief discussion, a motion was made and unanimously approved to approve the DAEP contract with Crockett ISD.

As the meeting continued, the LISD board approved contracts with Region VI Education Service Center along with consent agenda items.

The board also established the date of Aug. 29 for approving the 2019-2020 budget and the 2019-2020 tax rate. Woodard assured the trustees the tax rate for the upcoming school year would not increase and would remain at $1.20 per $100 of property valuation.

After a brief executive session, the board re-convened to announce it had accepted the resignation of Coach Cory Carden. Carden has accepted the athletic director’s position at Kennard ISD.
