ELKHART – Following the Lady Bulldogs 64-48 win over the Westwood Lady Panthers, Crockett found itself right back in the playoff hunt as the fourth and even possibly the third seed out of District 20-3A. A win against the Elkhart Lady Elks on Tuesday would further help their cause.

The Lady Elks have been struggling through a down year this season as they sat at 0-6 before Tuesday’s game. Elkhart was hoping to get off the schneid while Crockett was hoping to shore up its postseason chances.

Things didn’t go the Lady Elks way, unfortunately for the Elkhart fans, as they only scored nine first half points as the Lady Bulldogs pulled away to win by a final score of 63-33.

As the game got underway, the Lady Elks struggled from the field as they only netted four points on a pair of baskets from Alana Canaday.

In the meantime, the Lady Bulldogs opened up a 13-4 lead in the first eight minutes of play. Tynaisha McKnight led Crockett with five first quarter points while Katelin Holmes added four. Shabess Johnson and Alinjah McKnight closed out the first period scoring with two apiece.

The offensive output for Elkhart didn’t improve much in the second quarter as they tallied five on three points from Haleigh Chapin and two from V. Wilson.

The Lady Bulldogs turned it up a notch in the second as they dropped 17 points on Elkhart to take a 30-9 lead into the locker room at halftime. Holmes accounted for six of the points while Quenisha Henderson went for three. Four other Lady Bulldogs – Johnson, A. McKnight, T. McKnight and Jaida Lockhart – all had two apiece to round out the first half scoring.

Following the break, the Lady Bulldogs put the game on ice as they dropped in 20 while holding the Lady Elks to only eight third quarter points.

Jayci Moseley had three for Elkhart while Canaday and Laci McEnturff both had two. Chapin added one as the Lady Elks found themselves looking up at a 33-point deficit after three periods of play.

Holmes led the way for the Lady Bulldogs with seven in the third while Lockhart and Keaton Crabtree both had four. Johnson added three and A. McKnight chipped in two as Crockett took a 50-17 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Lady Bulldogs slowed the tempo in the fourth quarter as they tried to milk the clock. As a result, the Lady Elks dropped in 16 points on seven from Chapin, four from McEnturff, a three from Canaday and a two from Moseley.

Holmes led the Lady Bulldogs in the fourth with five points while Johnson, Lockhart, A. McKnight and JaKenya Tryon all had two apiece as Crockett coasted to a 63-33 win.

On the game, the lady Elks were led in scoring by Haleigh Chapin with 11 points and Alana Canaday with nine. Laci McEnturff netted six, Jayci Moseley had five and V. Wilson chipped in two.

Crockett was led in scoring by Katelin Holmes with a game-high 22 points and Shabess Johnson with nine. Jaida Lockhart and Alinjah McKnight had eight apiece while Tynaisha McKnight dropped in seven. Keaton Crabtree had four, Quenisha Henderson added three and JaKenya Tryon chipped in two to round out the Crockett scoring.

The win moves the Lady Bulldogs into a tie for the fourth playoff seed with Westwood as both teams sit at 3-4, one game behind third-place Frankston with a 4-3 record. Groesbeck sits in sixth place with a 2-4 record as well as a win over the Lady Bulldogs earlier this season.
