Sandies Blast Tigers, 79-21

Grapeland Now 3-0 in District 20-2A

 CENTERVILLE – The Grapeland Sandies are now 3-0 in District 20-2A after they crushed the Centerville Tigers by a final score of 79-21, on Tuesday, Jan. 8. The win set up a showdown on Friday with the Lovelady Lions who also sported a 3-0 record after their 104-46 win over Latexo. As of press time, however, the Grapeland/Lovelady score was unavailable.

Tuesday night’s game saw the Sandies jump out to a 24-6 first quarter lead never look back. Javion Joseph paced Grapeland in the first quarter with eight points while Deco Bryant dropped in two, three-pointers. Both Rick Frauenberger, along with Tyrin Wiley, added four apiece and Cadarian Wiley chipped in two.

The Tigers points came from BJ Kelly with four and Caiden Boss with two.

As the second quarter began, the Centerville shooting went ice-cold with Jake Cannon scoring the only two points in the period for the Tigers.

In the meantime, Grapeland kept up its torrid pace and pushed the lead to 48-8 by the end of the first half. Jack Woodford led the Sandies with eight second period points. Bryant dropped in two more three-pointers and Joseph went for five. Frauenberger, T. Wiley and Josh Ackley closed out the first half Grapeland scoring with two apiece.

The third quarter wasn’t a whole lot better for Centerville as they only scored three on Gabe Castillo‘s shot from behind the arc.

The Sandies slowed the pace a little bit but with the Tigers’ shooting woes, Grapeland couldn’t help but to extend their lead. Joseph had five in the third, while Bryant and C. Wiley had three apiece. Ackley, Frauenberger and T. Wiley all had two as the Sandies led by a score of 65-11 after three periods of play.

Grapeland continued to throttle down the offense in the fourth quarter and eased up a little bit on the defensive end. As a result, Castillo and Cannon Robinson both had four while Clayton Bell added two points to close out the Centerville scoring.

The Sandies fourth quarter points came from Ackley and Joseph with four apiece while both Bryant and T. Wiley had three which made the final score Grapeland 79 Centerville 21.

On the game, the Tigers were led by Gabe Castillo with seven points. BJ Kelly and Cannon Robinson both had four while Clayton Bell, Caiden Boss and Jake Cannon all had two.

Javion Joseph led the Grapeland scoring attack with 21 points. Deco Bryant dropped in six from behind the arc for 18 points and Tyrin Wiley netted 11. A trio of Sandies – Josh Ackley, Rick Frauenberger and Jack Woodford – had eight points apiece while Cadarian Wiley closed out the Grapeland point production with five.
