CROCKETT – The Crockett Bulldogs opened their 2018 – 2019 basketball season at home on Tuesday, Nov. 27 against the Onalaska Wildcats and while they’re still shaking off the rust, they played fairly well in the 91-46 win.

Yes, there were defensive lapses and some missed plays, but the speed and inside presence of Crockett helped offset the early-year jitters.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a double digit lead in the first eight minutes of play and never looked back. Led by AJ Owens with 14 points, Crockett took a 19-9 lead into the second quarter. Ty White had four and Allen Horace made one of two from the line to account for the first period points.

Onalaska’s points came from both Haden Price and Caleb Vasquez who both knocked down three-pointers. In addition, Ta’Von Cooper dropped in two while Anthony Genzer was one of two from the line.

The second quarter saw the Bulldogs and Wildcats play evenly throughout the period as Crockett managed to push their lead to 12 by the time the horn sounded for halftime.

Ty White knocked down six points while Emmanuel Aldaco, Jalen Carruthers and Damarcus Richardson all connected from behind the three-point line. Owens and Jordan Bedford both chipped in two as Crockett took a 38-26 lead into the locker room at intermission.

Haden Price connected on three, three-pointers to lead the way for the Wildcats. Kasen Crockett also hit from downtown, while Cooper hit a two and added a free throw. Genzer also chipped in a bucket to end the first half scoring for Onalaska.

Following the break, the Bulldogs put the game on ice as they outscored the Wildcats 34-11 in the third quarter. Owens paced the Bulldogs with eight while White had seven. Bedford dropped in a pair of threes while Aldaco and Horace both had five. Carruthers closed out the quarter with a three which made the score 72-37 after three.

Price scored five for Onalaska while both Cooper and Chase Fletcher had three in the third period of play.

The fourth quarter was just window dressing for the Bulldogs. Everyone on the team played significant minutes in the fourth quarter as Crockett coasted to an easy 91-46 win.

On the game, the Wildcats scoring came from: Haden Price with 19; Ta’Von Cooper with 11; Chase Fletcher with five; Kasen Crockett, Anthony Genzer and Caleb Velasquez – all with three; and Dillion Holtzclaw with two.
