CROCKETT – “It’s the ropes and the reins and the joy and the pain…” and the Crockett Lions Club is bringing it back to Houston County for the 57th year!

According to Rodeo Chairman Heath Murff, the event will be held Thursday through Saturday, May 10-12 at 7:30 p.m. nightly at the Porth Ag Arena, located at 1100 Edmiston Dr. in Crockett.

“Everything we do money-wise – the concession stands, ticket sales and everything – all goes back to scholarships for our kids in Houston County,” Murff said.

Proceeds also benefit missions of the Lions Club such as providing eyeglasses to local residents who are in need of them.

Free admission will be granted to first responders and veterans Thursday night.

“Veterans, all they’ve got to do is tell the people at the gate that they’re a veteran,” Murff explained. “First responders just need to have their fire department shirts or their uniform.”

All uniformed servicemen and women will be admitted free of charge each night.

Mike Mathis will serve as the announcer for the event, while “Backflip” Johnny Dudley will take on the entertaining role of rodeo clown.

“At the gate, it’s $15 for adults, and that’s 13 and older,” explained Murff. “It’s seven dollars at the gate for children’s tickets, and that’s ages six through 12. Five and under are free.”

Pre-sale tickets will be available until Thursday at all area banks, the Crockett Civic Center, Crockett Farm and Fuel and Fish & Still Equipment, Murff added.

Sponsors for the 57th Annual Crockett Lions Club PRCA Rodeo include Circle T Feeds, Crockett Farm and Fuel, Davy Crockett Drug, East Texas Livestock, East Texas Tree Services, Fast Track Construction, First County Feed, Fish & Still Equipment, Henson Motor Company, McDonald’s, Stalwart Ranches and Starns Ranch.
