Harold Dean Shepherd

Harold Dean Shepherd was born on November 27, 1939 in Grapeland, Texas to Henry O. and Mary Jane (Burns) Shepherd. He was the third of eight children.

He was raised in the Cedar Branch Community and attended W.R. Banks High School in Grapeland, Texas. He furthered his education by attending Prairie View A&M University and Lincoln Technical Automotive School.

He accepted Christ as a child and joined Cedar Branch, he later attended First Baptist Church in Frisco, Texas. After he retired he rejoined Cedar Branch Baptist Church.

Harold served in the United States Army from 1959 through 1963 in the 8th Infantry Division and was Honorably Discharged.

Harold married Elnora Jean McLemore on February 14, 1971. This  union was blessed with one son, Wayne Shepherd.

Harold was a businessman and a retired entrepreneur. He owned and operated Harold’s Exxon Mobil Mart for several years.

He was a Member of the Board of Mary Allen African American Museum in Crockett, Texas.

On February 26, 2018 in Grapeland, Texas, Harold’s hard working hands were called to rest.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Odell and Mary Jane (Burns) Shepherd; sister, Vera L. Denley; two brothers, John Edward Shepherd and Sandral Lee Shepherd.

Those left to cherish sweet memories are:

Loving wife, Elnora Jean Shepherd of Grapeland, Texas; son, Harold Wayne Shepherd (Chaneal Edson, special friend) of Grapeland, Texas; daughter, Felicia Murphy of Terrell, Texas; five brothers, Herman Shepherd of Shreveport, Louisiana, Charles Shepherd (Linda) of Dallas, Texas, David Shepherd (Bobbie) of Grapeland, Texas, Billy Shepherd of Grapeland, Texas and Henry H. Shepherd; three sisters, Esther Walker (Eddie B.) of Grapeland, Texas, Jettie Pierson (Henry) of Los Angeles, California and Annette Dennis; three grandchildren, Cameron Shepherd, Christi Shepherd and Hailey Kennedy. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Cedar Branch Missionary Baptist Church, 10563 County Road 2210, Grapeland, Texas 75844. The Rev. Michael Thompson will officiate. Elder R.C. Emanuel will be the eulogist.

Interment will follow at Cedar Branch Cemetery in Grapeland.
