Area Girls Compete in Rusk Invitational Powerlifting Meet

Lady Elks Claim Team Title

ELKHART – The Rusk Invitational Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association (THSWPA) Meet was held in Elkhart on Saturday, Feb. 13 and several of the area lifters fared very well in the first meet of February.

There were 112 lifters from 16 area schools. The schools represented at the meet included: Beckville; Bullard; Cayuga; Center; Elkhart; Grapeland; Hemphill; Jacksonville; Joaquin; New London West Rusk; Palestine; Rusk; Shelbyville; Troup; Westwood and Whitehouse.

The team from Elkhart powered their way to first place with a total of 40 points with two first place lifters, three second place, a trio of third place lifters and one fourth place lifter. The meet was scored based on a combination of bench press, dead lift and squat. Seven points were awarded for first place, five points for second three points for third, two points for fourth and one point for fifth.

The Troup Lady Tigers finished in second place with 26 points while the Rusk Lady Eagles were third with 25. The Shelbyville Lady Dragons were fourth with 25, based on THSWPA formulas. The Bullard Lady Panthers and the Jacksonville Lady Indians tied for sixth (21 points) with Bullard getting the sixth place nod.  The Center Lady Rough Riders were seventh with 19, the Hemphill Lady Hornets were eighth with 13 points the Joaquin Lady Rams were ninth with seven points and the Grapeland Sandiettes were 10th with six. Whitehouse finished in 11th with five points,

Cayuga, West Rusk and Westwood finished 12th, 13th and 14th with two points and Palestine and Beckville tied for 15th with zero.

In the 105 pound class, Elkhart Lady Elk Alissa Tally finished second with a total of 545 pounds lifted. She recorded lifts of 225 pounds in the squat, 85 on the bench and 235 in the dead lift.

In the 114 pound class, Elkhart Lady Elk Karson Pardue finished first with a total of 615 pounds lifted. She recorded lifts of 235 pounds in the squat, 145 on the bench and 235 in the dead lift. Westwood’s Emilee Young finished eighth with a total lift of 360 pounds.

In the 123 pound class, Elkhart’s Annalisa Trevino finished third with a total lift of 625 pounds. She recorded lifts of 270 pounds in the squat, 130 on the bench and 220 in the dead lift. Lady Elk teammates Keeaira Clark (550 lbs.), Kayla Moore (510 lbs.) and Hunter Gilmore (465 lbs.) finished seventh, ninth and 11th, respectively.  Cayuga’s Sami Winkel was 10th with a total of 490 pounds lifted and Grapeland’s Victoria Rodriguez was 14th with 245 pounds lifted.

In the 132 pound class, Elkhart Lady Elk Chloe Ives finished second with a total of 690 pounds lifted. She recorded lifts of 280 pounds in the squat, 135 on the bench and 275 in the dead lift. Lady Elk teammate Arrana Gonzalez was third with a total of 630 pounds. Westwood’s Kayla McClendon was 10th with a total lift of 395 and Grapeland’s Keoria Shepherd was 13th with a combined lift of 335.

In the 148 pound class, Breanna Warner finished fourth. She recorded lifts of 240 pounds in the squat, 110 on the bench and 250 in the dead lift. Westwood’s Melissa Springer was eighth with a total of 475 pounds lifted and Grapeland’s Cheyenne Bowman finished ninth with a total of 470 pounds lifted.

In the 165 pound class, Elkhart’s Karime Vazquez finished 10th with a total of 495 pounds lifted. She recorded lifts of 200 pounds in the squat, 75 on the bench and 220 in the dead lift. Westwood’s Leslie Anderson was 12th with a total of 470, Elkhart’s Ally Currie was 13th with a total lift of 455, Grapeland’s Amy Crook was 14th with a total of 435 and Westwood’s Rachael Villareal was 15th with a total of 395 pounds lifted.

In the 181 pound class, Westwood’s Emily Chavez finished fourth. She recorded lifts of 200 pounds in the squat, 75 on the bench and 245 in the dead lift. Lady Panther teammate Paris Sandifer was sixth with a total lift of 475 pounds.

In the 220 pound class, Elkhart Lady Elk Harleigh McEnturff finished first with a total of 950 pounds lifted. She recorded lifts of 415 pounds in the squat, 190 on the bench and 345 in the dead lift. Cayuga’s Amber Karnes was fifth with a total of 750 pounds lifted while Grapeland’s Jenni Lovell was 11th with 470 pounds lifted. Sandiette teammates Cierra Espinoza (405 lbs.)  Victoria Lane (345 lbs.) were 12th and 13th, respectively.

In the 259 pound class, Elkhart’s Tawny Anderson finished second with a total of 730 pounds lifted. She recorded lifts of 290 pounds in the squat, 140 on the bench and 300 in the dead lift. Grapeland’s Alyssa Dilli was third with 555 pounds lifted and Cayuga’s Savannah Fitzgerald was fifth with a total of 350 pounds.

In the 259+ class, Elkhart’s Natalie Defore finished third with a total of 695 pounds lifted She recorded lifts of 280 pounds in the squat, 130 on the bench and 285 in the dead lift. Grapeland’s Arionna Davis was fourth with a total lift of 550 pounds lifted.
