Crockett Remains in Second as District 21-3A Tightens Up

CROCKETT – The last time the Crockett Bulldogs and Anderson-Shiro Owls met this season, the Owls slipped by the Bulldogs in OT, 56-55.

The one point loss guaranteed Crockett would be ready for the rematch on Tuesday, Feb. 6 and the Bulldogs showed they were up to the task by slamming the Owls by a final score of 64-55.

The game started with the Bulldogs opening with a 7-0 run and holding on for a 16-13 lead after the first eight minutes of play. Crockett was led by AJ Owens with eight in the quarter while Draylin Bryant and Marcus Shedd both had three. Derrick Sherman added a basket to round out the Bulldogs’ scoring in the period.

The Owls were paced by Keshawn Mitchell with seven points in the first quarter. He was joined in the scoring column by Tre Hightower with three, Michael Klowinsky with two and CaDarrius Williams with one.

As the second quarter got underway, fouls committed by Anderson-Shiro began to add up. As a result, the Bulldogs went to the line nine times in the quarter and made seven on their way to a 32-27 halftime lead.

Shedd scored four from the line while Owens drained a shot from three-point land. Jalyne Carruthers made two of three from the line while Bryant, Sherman and Dimitris Williams all had two from the field. Cristian Brice also got in the books with one of two from the charity stripe.

The Owls second period points came from Mitchell with seven, Hightower with five and Grant Wilson with two.

After the break, the Bulldogs began to pull away from the Owls and led by 10 with 3:07 left in the third quarter. Anderson-Shiro, however, began to slowly reel the Bulldogs back in and finished the period only down by six.

Owens had five for Crockett in the third to pace the Bulldogs. Shedd added four while Bryant, Sherman and Allen Horace all had two.

Wilson scored seven for the Owls and was joined in the third quarter scoring column by Mitchell with four and Hightower with three.

With eight minutes left to play, the Bulldogs began to slow things down offensively and tighten up on the defensive side of the court. Shedd dropped in six for Crockett to lead the Bulldogs fourth quarter scoring.  Horace netted four, Owens made three of four from the line while both Brice and Bryant both had two which made the final score 64-55, in favor of Crockett.

For the game, the Owls’ Keshawn Mitchell led all scorers with a game-high 22 points. Tre Hightower and Grant Wilson both dropped in 12, CaDarrius Williams netted five while both Michael Klowinsky and Chase Werner both had two.

The Bulldogs were led in scoring by AJ Owens with 19 points and Marcus Shedd with 17. Draylin Bryant went for nine, both Allen Horace and Derrick Sherman had six, Cristian Brice had three and Jalyne Carruthers closed out the Crockett scoring with two.

The win keeps the Bulldogs in second place in District 21-3A with two very winnable games left on their schedule.
