Earl Richard Smith

Earl Richard Smith was the first child born to Zettie Boykin Smith and Ebben Richard Smith, April 3, 1950 in Oakwood, TX where he was raised.

Earl proudly joined the US Army and served during the Vietnam War. After returning home he married Jackie Lyles, and to this union three children were born: Shannon, Earl, and Sherrie.

Earl was a simple man who worked as a truck driver,  enjoyed fishing, and being in the company of his family.

On January 20, 2018, Earl transitioned at CHI St. Luke’s Memorial Hospital in Lufkin, TX.

Earl is preceded in death by both parents, Zettie Boykin Smith and Ebben Richard Smith, son Joseph Leger, and sister Eyvette Odom.

He’s survived by son, Earl Smith, Jr., Grapeland, TX; daughters, Shannon Smith and Chris Montgomery, Manvel, TX, and Sherrie Smith, Pearland, TX; brother, William “Buddy” Smith, Texas City, TX; sister, Ida Robertson and Matt Weber, Oyster Creek, TX; and five grandchildren.

A graveside service was held at Boykin Chapel Cemetery, Flo, TX, at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 27, 2018 with Pastor John Murray officiating.
