Garland Wayne Franklin, Jr.

A funeral service for Garland Wayne Franklin Jr., 59, of Marshall, Texas, was held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018 in the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Franklin officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Houston County, Texas.

Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018 at Downs Funeral Home.

Garland Wayne Franklin Jr. was born Dec. 27, 1958 to Garland Wayne Franklin and Carrie Ann Haltom Franklin.

Mr. Franklin lived in Slocum, Texas from birth up until 1989 when he then moved to Marshall, where he has lived for the past 29 years. After high school he went to work for Vulcraft in Grapeland. Mr. Franklin worked for McGeorge Construction and Haltom Construction. He worked for Rayford Truck and Tractor until his death. Mr. Franklin enjoyed fishing, squirrel hunting, riding his motorcycle and socializing with friends.

Surviving Mr. Franklin is his wife, Jeannie Leverett Franklin; parents, Garland Wayne Franklin, Sr. and Carrie Ann Haltom Franklin; son, Garland Wayne Franklin, III (Desiree) of Woodlawn; stepsons, Randy Robbins (Toni) of Longview and Mike Munson (Bernice) of Westminster, Maryland; sisters, Wanda Ann Prejean (Wade) and Angela Johnson (Louis), both of Slocum; brother, Neal Franklin of Slocum; grandchildren, Garland Wayne Franklin IV and Faith Ann Franklin; Clayton Goodson; Mikey, Billy and Lazz Munson; aunt, Veda Muriel Lipscomb of Conroe; uncle, Tommy Haltom (Charlcie) of Marshall.

Mr. Franklin was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Garland Maudie and Tex Franklin; and maternal grandparents, Elise (Big) Haltom and Flavel Newton (Slim) Haltom.

A special thanks to his sisters-in-law, Frances, Myra, Stella and Sue for all their time, attention and love.
