ELKHART – The Elkhart Elks welcomed the Groesbeck Goats to Jerry Ives Memorial Stadium on Friday night, Nov. 3 for a District 9 AAA DI match-up and in hindsight, the invitation might should have been rescinded.

The Goats throttled the Elks by a final score of 49-0 and knocked the Elks out of playoff consideration. The game was – quite frankly – ugly for the Elks after the first quarter.

Elkhart managed to hold the Goats to seven points in the first 12 minutes of action as the lone TD came on a 63-yard catch-and run from Groesbeck QB Ty Hale to WR Ethan Davis. Dylan Rand knocked home the PAT and at the end of one, Elkhart only trailed 7-0.

The second quarter, unfortunately, spelled doom for the Elks gave up 28 points and fell behind by a score of 35-0 as the teams went into the break.

Rand, who also plays in the slot for the Goats hauled in Hale’s second TD pass of the game from eight yards out and then added the extra point to make the score 14-0.

A fumble on the Elks’ ensuing possession was scooped up by Groesbeck’s Jessie Salinas and returned for a TD. Rand converted the extra point to extend the Goats’ lead to 21-0.

Following the defensive touchdown, Groesbeck went back to the Hale to Davis combination as the QB/WR duo hooked up on scoring plays from 58 and 15 yards to bring the first half scoring to a close with Groesbeck leading 35-0.

Following the halftime festivities, the Goats were back at it as Hale connected with Brandyn Canady for a 22 yard scoring strike. It was Hale’s fifth TD of the game as he finished 25 of 36 for 316 yards and no interceptions.

The Goats’ Ameer Lee finished off the scoring with a 26-yard TD scamper in the third quarter to make the final score 49-0.

The Elks will end their season on the road as they travel to Malakoff for a game against the Tigers on Friday, Nov. 10. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
