HOUSTON COUNTY – One of three men wanted in connection with a Houston County home invasion on June 12 has been arrested in Kentucky.

Jay Barrett, 17, was apprehended in Jackson County, Ken. on June 18 after an anonymous tip alerted law enforcement officials in the Bluegrass State to his location.

According to the Houston County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Facebook page, Barrett and two unidentified men kicked open the door of a residence in the incorporated area of southern Houston County during the early morning hours of June 12.

“According to Houston County Sheriff’s Office Investigators, the other men were described as a tall, Hispanic male and an African American male.  The investigators stated that, during the robbery, the African American male forced a female juvenile to disrobe and ‘sexually touched’ her.  Armed with a firearm and baseball bats, and looking for money and guns, the men stole electronics from the home,” the HCSO Facebook page stated.

An arrest warrant for Barrett was obtained for the offense of aggravated robbery and on Sunday, June 18 Barrett was arrested.

A press release from HCSO Chief Deputy Gary “G.P.” Shearer stated the HCSO had “… been vigorously working the Home Invasion/Burglary since it had occurred on June 12.”

Information was received by HCSO investigators which indicated those involved in the crime may have left the state and travelled to Kentucky.

“They notified Kentucky State Police and local jurisdictions of where this criminal gang may be hiding. It turns out the information was correct and Jay Barrett was taken into custody Sunday evening along with others,” Shearer stated.

The chief deputy also indicated Houston County investigators are currently enroute to Kentucky “… to pick up Jay Barrett and interview others that may have been associated with him.”

Shearer added the names of the other adult suspects arrested with Barrett will be released once they have been questioned.
