Mary I. Romine

Mrs. Mary I. Romine went to be with our Lord, Wednesday, January 18, 2017. Mrs. Romine was born in Weldon, Texas on June 19, 1925 to parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Ivins. She was the oldest of nine children and graduated from Weldon High School in 1943.
On November 24, 1943, in Abilene, TX she married Lonnie A. Romine. Mary and Lonnie had five children, William, Ginger, Jane, Kathleen, and Lonnie, Jr. Mary and Lonnie were active in their community as well as state and national Democratic campaigns. They received recognition for their service with invitations to the U.S. Presidential Inaugural ceremonies. After the death of Lonnie in 1975, Mary adopted grandchildren, Kasey Walker and Tyler Romine. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren called her Nanny and she called them one of her greatest gifts.

Mrs. Romine was a member of Westside Baptist Church. She loved the Lord and her family. She enjoyed cooking and baking, especially with her sisters and sisters-in-law. The smell of chocolate filled the air throughout Latexo the first weekend in December as they prepared candy for their loved ones.

Mary was an accomplished seamstress — sewing for her family as well as professionally for many years. She was a fierce competitor and loved a good game of cards or dominoes and enjoyed watching and rooting for the Astros, Texans and Rockets.

She is survived by her children, Ginger Rhamey and husband, Jim of Murchison, Jane Regner and husband, Rick of Houston, Kathleen Lowdermilk and husband, David of Grand Saline, Lonnie Romine, Jr. and wife, Carolyn of Crockett, Kasey Walker of Grapeland, and Tyler Romine and wife, Lisa of The Colony; grandchildren, Justin Regner and wife, Brooke of Temple, James Cotton of Arlington, Shelly Lognion of Beaumont, Travis Regner and wife, Ashley of Friendswood, Becky Cole and husband, Jason of Georgetown, Jody Mirike and husband, Andy of Frisco, Crystal Fisher and husband, Anthony of Buckholts, Ginger Morris and husband, Noel of Bossier City, Kassandra Morgan of Grand Prairie, Ryan Walters of Palestine, Andrew Romine of The Colony, Paige Romine of The Colony, and Bradley Romine of Pearland; great-grandchildren, Morgan, Berkley, Noah and Dylan Regner, Sam and Faith Cole, Murpie, Jessie, and Wesley Mirike, Addison and Layla Angel, William Noel Morris V, Jordyn Morgan and Darion Platt; sisters, Faye Stanfield of Grand Prairie, Nell Jones and husband, Roy of Latexo; brother, Jim Ivins and wife, Roxanne of Tomball; sister-in-law, Nina Ivins of Crockett; special family friend, Regena Hammett Baker; numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie A. Romine; infant son, William; parents, C. J. and Ruby Ivins; sisters, Joyce Ann Ivins, June Bennett Burton, and Bernice Maples; brothers, J.D. Ivins and C. J. Ivins; sisters-in-law, Betty Jo Ivins, Frances Ivins; brothers-in-law, James Bennett, Bill Burton, Carl Maples and Delma Stanfield.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Romine will be held Sunday, January 22, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel with Rev. Steve Meadows officiating. Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. in the Weldon Cemetery.

The family will receive friends for visitation Sunday 11:00 – 1:00 p.m. prior to service.
