“Butch” Patton Announces Candidacy for County Commissioner

HOUSTON COUNTY – Floyd “Butch” Patton has announced his candidacy for Precinct One Houston County Commissioner on the Republican ticket. Patton has a long history of business and community involvement and wants to work on roads and improvements in the precinct, if elected.

Patton is a native of Houston County, working for the Houston County Co-Op before moving to Houston to work there before returning in 1996 to take over the family business, Patton’s Exxon in Crockett. The business was started by Patton’s grandfather in 1959. Patton’s grandfather taught his family to treat people with dignity and respect, lessons Patton applies to this day.

He was elected to the Latexo school board in 1998, serving for 15 years, the last 10 as president. Elected to the Houston County Water Board in 2011, Patton still serves as the board’s secretary. Patton is a past Worshipful Master at Humble Masonic Lodge and a lifetime member of Lothrop Masonic Lodge in Crockett. He is a member of Latexo Baptist Church.

One of Patton’s proudest accomplishments is his family, with wife Carmen, four children, nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Patton said running for the position of county commissioner is something he feels called to do and believes his experience and knowledge will help him be successful in the position.

“This is something I’ve been thinking about for the last couple of years,” Patton said. “I’ve served Houston County for many, many years and this would be a way to continue doing that. I have knowledge about the roads and I want to be a working commissioner. When I’m available, I’ll be out there with the guys, assisting them maybe running a backhoe or grader – I want to be able to help them.”

Patton believes the main thing is that people vote, no matter for which party or candidate, as long as they participate in the process and in the county’s future.

“Aside from taking care of our roads, a commissioner must consider taxes, overseeing the financial aspect, hiring the right people – one of the most important things a commissioner can do,” Patton said. “Sometimes, people vote one way because their neighbors vote that way but people need to voice their opinion. Whether it be good or bad, just throw it out there…that’s the way I am.”

Patton will not make a lot of promises in this campaign, which he does not believe is right. He relies on those in the county who know him and his family’s morals and good reputation. He is very comfortable with the people of this county and looks forward to hearing their ideas on how to make precinct one better.

Butch Patton is asking you for your support and vote for the position of County Commissioner for Precinct One. The Republican primary will be March 5, 2024.
