CROCKETT – If you had looked quick, you may have just seen a state champion fly past you on Thursday, April 1 at Monte Jack Driskell Stadium in Crockett. The District 20-3A track meet was held earlier this week with both varsity girls and boys competing for a chance to advance to the Area Track Meet which is also back in Crockett. 

Both varsity boys and girls gathered on the track for a chance to be crowned district champions. The seven schools which made up the district were: Buffalo; Crockett; Elkhart; Fairfield; Franklin; Groesbeck; Palestine Westwood; and Teague.   

At the girls’ varsity team level: Fairfield finished first with 218 points; Franklin was in second with 111; Westwood was third with 92; Elkhart was fourth with 71; Teague was fifth with 64; Groesbeck was sixth with 38; Crockett was seventh with 15 and Buffalo was eighth with 11.

The top 10 athletes in the division were: Westwood’s Jaysa Coney with 39 points; Fairfield’s A. Thaler with 34; Fairfield’s B. Dowell with 33; Fairfield’s S. Brackens with 25; Fairfield’s M. Mitchell with 23; Franklin’s Hailey Hays with 22; Franklin’s Aubrie Hawkins with 21; Franklin’s Lauren McGough with 20; Elkhart’s Guin Young with 18 and Elkhart’s Lynsie Walding with 18.

The top four finishers advance to the Area Meet.

In the varsity girls’ 100m dash: 1) Jaysa Coney Westwood 12.97; 2) B. Dowell Fairfield 13.30; 3) La’Kyrah Hamilton Crockett 13.34; 4) A. Cox Fairfield 13.43; 5) Miranda Burton Crockett 13.66; 6) Lynsie Walding Elkhart 13.79.

At the boys’ varsity level, Franklin won the team title with 202 points. Crockett was second with 114; Teague was third with 71; Elkhart was fourth with 67 points; Westwood was fifth with 45 points; Fairfield was sixth with 43 points; Groesbeck was seventh with 41 points; and Buffalo was eighth with 30.  

The top 10 athletes in the division were: Franklin’s Malcolm Murphy with 26 points; Elkhart’s Joshua Davis with 24; Fairfield’s Tyler Smith with 23; Franklin’s Jaxson Zimmerman with 21; Franklin’s Michael Booker with 21; Buffalo’s E. Williams with 20; Crockett’s Randy Jones with 18; Franklin’s Devyn Hidrogo with 16; and Crockett’s Omar Garcia with 16.
