Sandies and Sandiettes Compete in Tournament Action

EAST TEXAS – The Grapeland Sandies and Sandiettes are on the road this week as they play in two different tournaments.

The Sandiettes are in the Mt. Pleasant Chapel Hill Tournament and took on the Class 4A Gilmer Lady Buckeyes during pool play on Thursday, Dec. 5. Grapeland blistered Gilmer by a final of 60-24.

The Sandiettes were led in points by Jessie Payne with 22 while KeKe Harris netted 14 and Teira Jones had nine.  

On Friday, the Sandiettes took on the Commerce Lady Tigers in pool play. The contest tipped off early but regardless, the #10 ranked Sandiettes blew out the Lady Tigers by a final of 76-32.

Their second game of the day was against the Celina Lady Bobcats and once again the Sandiettes blew out their opponents by a score of 70-25. Teira Jones led all scorers as she poured in 23 points. Kenya Woods and KeKe Harris joined Jones in double figures Woods had 18 and Harris dropped in 15 to help lead Grapeland to the win.   

The Sandies were also in action on Thursday as they tipped off their season in Franklin. On the other side of the court were the normally strong Class 4A Madisonville Mustangs, but with less than a week of practice the Sandies defeated the Mustangs by a final score of 73-55.

Grapeland was led by Keizion Ashford, who poured in 27 points, while Cadarian Wiley dropped in 19 and pulled down seven boards.

On day two of pool play, the Sandies took down the Class 3A Orangefield Bobcats by a final of 55-43.

In that game, the Sandies were led in points by Deco Bryant with 15 while BJ Lamb had 13 points, six boards and six assists.

Grapeland’s second game on Friday was scheduled against the Central Heights Blue Devils, but as of press time, the score was unavailable.
