Girls’ Bi-District

EAST TEXAS – The girls’ postseason basketball tournament tipped off this past week and the Houston/Anderson County area was well represented as eight of the 12 schools qualified for the playoffs.

Districts 19-2A and 20-2A faced off in the Bi-district round after two play-in games out of District 20-2A. The Lovelady Lady Lions and Centerville Lady Tigers faced off against one another for second and third place with Lovelady picking up the 48-45 win.

The Slocum Lady Mustangs and Leon Lady Cougars also had a play-in game for fourth place and it was the Lady Mustangs who prevailed by a score of 45-38.

In the Bi-District matchups: the Grapeland Sandiettes blew out the Frost Lady Polar Bears, 79-38; Lovelady hammered Itasca, 65-22; Centerville surprised Cayuga, 50-3; and Kerens beat Slocum, 48-37.

With their wins, Grapeland, Lovelady, Centerville and Kerens all moved into the area round of the playoffs. Grapeland squared off against Moody on Thursday, while Lovelady took on Crawford. Also Centerville played Marlin while Kerens faced Mart. As of press time, the scores of those games were not available.

Moving to District 20-3A: the Teague Lady Lions defeated the Lexington Lady Eagles, 53-50; Franklin defeated the Crockett Lady Bulldogs, 62-49; The Buffalo Lady Bison defeated the Rogers Lady Eagles; and Little River Academy took out the Frankston Maidens, 50-30.

Area matchups for teams out of District 20-3A featured Buffalo taking on Scurry-Rosser while Teague faced Keene. As of press time, however, the scores of those games were not available.

At the 4A level: Huntington defeated Palestine, 52-47; Fairfield defeated Carthage, 79-33; Rusk defeated Center, 35-30; and Jasper slipped by Mexia, 60-57.

Area matchups for teams out of District 19-4A featured Fairfield taking on Venus, while Rusk took on Lorena. As of press time, however, the scores of those games were not available.

In Region IV District 28-1A: the LaPoynor Lady Flyers had a bye in the Bi-District round; Neches beat Coolidge, 45-28; and Chireno defeated Milford, 49-17.

Area matchups for teams out of District 28-1A featured: LaPoynor taking on Blum; Neches taking on Bartlett; and Chireno facing Iredell. As of press time, however, the scores of those games were not available.
