Shirley Ann Jordan Parker

Shirley Ann Jordan Parker, age 94, of Lovelady, passed away Monday, January 7, 2019 at the Cartmell Home in Palestine.

She was born September 30, 1924 to parents, Willie “Bud” Richard and Mamie Wylie Jordan in Weldon.  Shirley attended school in Creek, Center, Pearson Chapel and graduated from Weldon School.  When World War II began, she went to do her part in the war effort as soon as she finished school in the spring of 1942.  She worked in a machine shop in Houston for Hughes Tool and worked there throughout the war.  Shirley married her high school sweetheart, John Richard “Dick” Parker, in June of 1948 and they had three sons.  During the early 1950’s, Dick taught her to drive in order to better care for their boys.  In 1967, she began college classes and earned her Bachelor of Arts in teaching degree from Sam Houston State Teachers College in December of 1972.  Shirley taught school in Houston, Crockett and retired from Lovelady Elementary school in 1991.  She was a member of Lovelady First Baptist Church since 1973 and was an active member until her health failed.

Shirley is survived by her sons, Tommy Parker and wife, Patti of Lovelady, Ken Parker and wife, Jeanne of Houston, Mark Parker and wife, Deidra of Lovelady; grandchildren, John Kenneth Parker and wife, Nicole of Wimberley, Julie Beth Baker and husband, Rusty of Lovelady, Hannah Parker of Houston, James Parker of Houston, Jamie Parker and wife, Amy of Spring, Holli Parker of Huntsville; great-grandchildren, Jackson, Jordan, and Jett Parker of Wimberley, Rylan and Andi Jo Baker of Lovelady, Hadley and Margot Parker of Houston; sisters, Laura Jo Herridge, Margaret Parker, Lillian Driskell.  She is preceded in death by her husband, John Richard Parker; parents, Bud and Mamie Jordan; sisters, Eloise Westmoreland, Ruth McDougald, Lucille Adams, Frank Alice Gardner, Doris Monk; brothers, Jack Jordan, Dick Jordan.

Funeral services for Shirley Ann Jordan Parker were held Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at 11 a.m. in Lovelady First Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Matthews and Pastor Brandon Gray officiating.  Interment followed in the Weldon Cemetery.  Family received friends for visitation Tuesday evening from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Callaway-Allee Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Weldon Cemetery Association, 5928 C.R. 3555, Lovelady, TX 75851.  Online condolences may be made at www.callawayallee.com
