Bryant Knocks Down Nine Three-Pointers

GRAPELAND – The Grapeland Sandies welcomed the Leon Cougars to town on Friday, Jan. 4 for a game of basketball and truthfully – after the first quarter – the Cougars probably wished they hadn’t come to Grapeland as the Sandies pummeled Leon by a final score of 91-19.

The game started out innocently enough as the Cougars only trailed 19-10 after the first eight minutes. Unfortunately, Leon would only

add two points to their total in the second and third quarters.

As the game got underway, Grapeland’s Deco Bryant could not be stopped. He knocked down four three-pointers and a two for 14 points in the quarter. Javion Joseph and Tyrin Wiley both dropped in two while Cadarian Wiley made one of two from the charity stripe.

The Cougars points came from Keaton Caveness with four while both Wyatt Robertson and Aidan Turner connected from behind the arc to make the score 19-10 after the first quarter.

The second quarter saw the Sandies put the game away as they held the Cougars to a lone basket from Robertson while dropping 26 on Leon.

Grapeland was paced by Joseph with nine second period points. Jack Woodford added six Rik Frauenberger had four and Bryant hit his fifth three of the half. C. Wiley and T. Wiley both had a basket to give the Sandies a 45-12 lead after the first half.

Following the break, things went from bad to worse for the Cougars as they didn’t score a single point in the third quarter.

Meanwhile, the Sandies poured it on as they put the game out of reach. Bryant added another three, three-pointers to go along with a two for 11 third quarter points. Joseph dropped in five, T. Wiley had four and Josh Ackley chipped in two as Grapeland took a 67-12 lead into the final eight minutes of play.

The fourth quarter saw the Leon offense show up for the first time since intermission as Justin Massey hit a three while both Wyatt Robertson and Nick Ucci had two.

In the final period of play, the Sandies were led by C. Wiley with seven points while Ackley and Woodford had five apiece. T. Wiley added four as Bryant hit his ninth three of the game to make the final score 91-19, in favor of Grapeland.

On the game, the Cougars were led by Wyatt Robertson with seven points. Keaton Caveness had four while both Justin Massey and Aidan Turner connected on three-pointers. Nick Ucci added a basket to close out the Leon scoring.

The Sandies were led by Deco Bryant with nine three-pointers go along with a pair of two-point baskets for 31 total points. Javion Joseph added 16, Tyrin Wiley had 12, Jack Woodford dropped in 11 and Cadarian Wiley had 10. Josh Ackley went for seven and Rick Frauenberger rounded out the Grapeland point production with four.
