Genesis 2- “Adam Was Given a Job, a Warning and a Wife”

God named the Garden, Eden.  Adam’s job was to take care of the garden but he was given a warning in 2:17; “but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day you eat from it you shall surely die.”  That one tree was off limits. I remember my Dad telling me a story and as for as I know, he told this to just one – me.

While I was growing up my father was elected the Water Commissioner of West University Place (in Houston). He told me that a man called him one day and told him if he would run a water main out to a certain point, he would put $10,000 in his checking account anonymously.  That was probably before WWII since my Dad worked for the O.P.A. during the war.

He told me that if he had laid that water main it would have been his first big act of dishonesty, which would have led to another, then another, etc.  That story has stayed with me. My Dad was the most honest man I have ever known.
