Alfred Lee Smith

Alfred Lee Smith, 87, passed away Friday, July 7, 2017 in Houston County Nursing Home. He was born January 8, 1930 in Aransas Pass, Texas to John Henry Smith and Adell Steed Smith. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Alfred Lee worked for many years and retired from the Texas Highway Department in Crockett. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Alfred Lee is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gorma Jean Ashmore Smith of Crockett; brother, Jimmy McCelvey and wife, Patsy of Marshall; nephew, Scott McCelvey of Dallas; niece, Shannon McCelvey Page and husband, Mark of Hallsville; great-niece, McCelvey Catherine Page of Hallsville; and brother-in-law, Ray Steed of Kennard; numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry Smith and Adell Steed McCelvey; sister, Hudell McCelvey Steed; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Willie Henry Ashmore and Zelma Geneive Johnson Ashmore.

Graveside services for Alfred Lee Smith were held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at New Energy Cemetery with Rev. Ottis Byers officiating.
